Your Top 5 From The Last Hero
Greg asked for it. And if Greg wants it, Greg gets it. You're welcome.
You can choose UP TO 5 SONGS (Top 5) if you feel obliged.
If you only "liked" the album, you can choose 3 instead.
If you hated the album, just pick one and move on.
Debate. Discuss. Enjoy. Be nice to each other!

Same exact choices for me. Show Me A Leader and The Other Side aren't far behind.Andy92 wrote:No particular order, haven't figured that out yet.

You can put me in any club that likes any of these songs except for You Will Be Remembered. That song isn't very good, imo.psycosquirrel789 wrote:1. Cradle to the Grave

Re: Favorite song(s) from The Last Hero
Island of Fools - Best all-out heavy song they've ever done, amazing for every second
The Last Hero - Cry of Achilles's twin, so many good things about this song from the intermittent verse riff to Myles' tragic voice in the breakdown.
This Side of Fate - Lover meets Words Darker meets Calm the Fire, with an absurdly brilliant solo from Myles. A bridge to insanity.
Cradle to the Grave - Blackbird rightly gets due credit as a beautiful ode to the memory of Myles's friend, but a more common preoccupation of his writing is dealing with the knowledge that those still with him will eventually will be taken away, and this is his best effort at tackling it yet.
The Other Side - Dark and ambiguous but catchy, a less desolate version of Show Me A Sign (which is also awesome but you need to be in the mood).
Was tempted to put Writing on the Wall as fifth since it'll likely get less love overall, but The Other Side couldn't be ignored.

Well done, Hartie! Thanks!
I could pick a top 9 pretty easily, but it was hard to get down to just 5. There are lots of really good songs that haven't separated themselves from each other much.
In chronological order...
Poison In Your Veins
Losing Patience
Island Of Fools
The Last Hero
The Last Of Our Kind
Looks like I'm joining psychosquirrel's club

Re: Favorite song(s) from The Last Hero
I know among seven that I'd want to choose, but it's hard to break it down to just a top five.
I think I have to go with (in order):
- The Last Hero
- My Champion
- The Other Side
- This Side of Fate
- Cradle to the Grave
Close ones have to be: Island of Fools and You Will Be Remembered.

Re: Favorite song(s) from The Last Hero
Island o' Fools- THAT RIFF. Seriously my favorite riff ever by these guys. Moshing to this is a must. Im pretty sure this song is the perfect heavy AB song. Myles is totally at his best here, the bridge and final chorus are just proof of that. SAAAAAAVE YOURSELF! Damn thats good stuff.
This Side of Fate- I love how almost symphonic the intro is. Cant go wrong w the Queen/Muse vibe, unless you hate that vibe. The final chorus is wicked with the key change that totally feels like you've accepted defeat. So great. Oh, and THOSE SOLO'S!
The Last Hero- I absolutely love the chorus in this song, Myles and Mark harmonies are the best. The chug fest during the bridge pumps me up every time. Just a great journey of a song.
Cradle to the Grave- Pretty heartbreaking lyrics, especially during the verses. Myles totally killed it during those verses, what a great showcase of his beautiful voice.
Breathe- The ODR vibes will never get old. Mark and Myles' harmonies on this are mint.

Re: Favorite song(s) from The Last Hero
I liked Writing on the Wall.
I can see from the poll results that Poison in your Veins has the lowest percentage.
I told you that song sucked.

Re: Favorite song(s) from The Last Hero
No particular order:
The Other Side: Slow and creepy. People keep saying it's like Show Me A Sign's twin, but the more I listen, the more I disagree. SMAS is brooding and depressive. This feels more angry and brooding. The song is just massive. I'm glad they didn't add a solo because I think it's perfect the way it is. Favorite part of the song: That bridge.
Cradle to the Grave: Best song lyrically since Blackbird. That second verse nearly brought me to tears. One of two songs on this album that I really feel standout amongst the rest of their discography as being "different". Favorite moment: afformentioned 2nd verse.
The Side of Fate: What can I say about this one? Amazing soloing from both Mark and Myles, and a killer arrangement. Catchy chorus that is currently stuck in my head. Along with Cradle to the Grave, it stands out as being an incredibly unique song on this album compared to the rest of their discography. That bridge too. It's like Muse, Dream Theater, and Queen had a baby and Alter Bridge raised it as their own. Favorite part: tie between Myles' solo and the bridge as a whole.
Island of Fools: What doesn't this song have? Excellent solos, catchy chorus, awesome verse melodies, and DAT RIFF. Favorite moment: transition from heavy intro riff into the first verse.
The Last Hero: previews weren't kidding when they said this one would take you on a journey. Starting directly with the verse was not expected. And that transition from the solo to the breakdown/bridge was incredible. My head wouldn't stop bobbing. Great conclusion to the album. Favorite moment: idk. It's really hard to choose. Probably the above mentioned transiton.
