RAH RAH 2: How AB Got Its Parallax Back
Ridiculous.
Since there’s not really much going on in the Alter Bridge universe (or the world at all), I’ve been thinking about what would happen if the guys were to reconnect with the Parallax Orchestra for another show or a tour or whatever. Shea and I were discussing it and it got me thinking, what kind of set would they put together?
The original Royal Albert Hall shows had probably the most ideal set you could ask for in my view. So what could they do to make a second go at it different? Obviously they would add in some songs from Walk the Sky, but would the core of the setlist remain the same? Here’s the set from the original Royal Albert Hall shows:
Slip to the Void
Addicted to Pain
Before Tomorrow Comes
The Writing on the Wall
Cry of Achilles
In Loving Memory
Fortress
Ties That Bind
The Other Side
Brand New Start
Ghost of Days Gone By
The Last Hero
The End Is Here
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Waters Rising
Lover
Wonderful Life/Watch Over You
This Side of Fate
Broken Wings
Blackbird
Open Your Eyes
I feel like if they were to do another show with Parallax, they would likely use a lot of the same songs, and when adding in other songs, they would mostly be deep cuts at this point. I feel like they picked a lot of the best suited songs for this style of show, and it might be tricky to find other ones that would work. Some songs I’d like for them to add would be Wayward One, Home, Walking on the Sky, Forever Falling, Dying Light, Calm the Fire, and Burn It Down.
What I think would be really cool is if they played with the arrangements of the songs more and worked with Parallax to incorporate the orchestra rather than simply having the orchestra back the band. I’m not a fan of Metallica at all, but my Mom is, and she used to love their orchestra show, but I felt like it was just an orchestra tacked onto the songs as they normally were. If AB could find the time to work with the orchestra so it’s more of a unified effort, I think that would be the ideal scenario.
What do you think? What songs would you like to see them play with Parallax? What songs do you think might benefit from having the arrangements changed to incorporate the orchestra better? Do you think another show with an orchestra is even in the cards?

Re: RAH RAH 2: How AB Got Its Parallax Back
I think a completely different set would be a lot more interesting and fresh. They would cover more of their songs, the fans would see more rarities and I think everyone would be happy.
For me, I think these songs could work well with the orchestra:
Burn it Down
Shed My Skin
Coming Home
Wayward One
New Way to Live
All Hope is Gone
Show me a Sign
Life Must Go On
Bleed it Dry
The Uninvited (with a choir)
Calm The Fire
All Ends Well
Show Me a Leader (someone here mentioned that this could be interesting with a choir and I agree)
Cradle to the Grave
You Will Be Remembered
Island of Fools (Don't know why, I think this one might be interesting, but I could be wrong)
Godspeed
Take The Crown
The Bitter End
Walking on the Sky
Dying Light

Setlist is 10 mins longer than we got for the original show, honestly there wasn't much to be added. Rise Today would be cool, Life Must Go On would be considered if there wasn't such a massive ballad presence, same with Dying Light.

The only thing I'm sure is that they do this again, they must get a choir

That has never crossed my mind, but you're totally right. A choir + Parallax again would definitely top RAH.Blackbirddd wrote:The only thing I'm sure is that they do this again, they must get a choir

Re: RAH RAH 2: How AB Got Its Parallax Back
So I'm one of those guys who overanalyzes my favorite bands, and I thought I might chime in here. I actually predicted 14 out of 18 songs on Metallica's S&M2, so I might be of help.
Of the songs originally played:
- Slip To The Void as opener will probably keep the integrity of it being a sequel to the original show.
- Addicted To Pain is one of their biggest hits, and since they played it last time, it's probably coming back.
- Before Tomorrow Comes is another one of their biggest hits, but strangely, they stopped playing it after 2017. I have doubts about this one.
- The Writing On The Wall was only played on The Last Hero tour, and not since. Overall I think they will try to ignore The Last Hero, as songs from that album have only been played about 10 times on the Walk The Sky tour.
- Cry Of Achilles: same reason as Addicted To Pain.
- In Loving Memory will probably be there again, as it's one of the songs they brought back specifically for those shows. Plus, they started playing it regularly.
- Fortress is a deep cut, but they seem to like playing it.
- Ties That Bind: same reason as Before Tomorrow Comes.
- The Other Side: same reason as The Writing On The Wall.
- Brand New Start: same reason as Before Tomorrow Comes. The only exception is that they did play the song once in 2019. They probably will choose one of the old songs that they dropped after 2017, and this one might be it.
- Ghost Of Days Gone By: same reason as Addicted To Pain.
- The Last Hero: same reason as The Writing On The Wall.
- The End Is Here was one of the special songs from the original shows. Mark my words, it's gonna be there.
- Words Darker Than Their Wings is the other highlight from those shows.
- Waters Rising: same reason as Addicted To Pain.
- Lover is one of the deep cuts that they didn't play ever again after the Royal Albert Hall shows. It's not coming back.
- Wonderful Life was ignored on the Walk The Sky tour.
- Watch Over You has to be there. It just has to.
- This Side Of Fate: same reason as The Writing On The Wall. Also, it was never played again after the Royal Albert Hall shows.
- Broken Wings is played a lot nowadays. It's most likely gonna be there.
- Blackbird: same reason as Addicted To Pain.
- Open Your Eyes: same reason as Addicted To Pain.
So we have 14 songs so far.
Songs released before the first Royal Albert Hall show and not played then will probably not come back. That's unfortunate, because I think Come To Life, Isolation, and Crows On A Wire would work.
Actually, one exception might be All Ends Well. Myles said that he wants to play it live with Alter Bridge, but they haven't found the time yet. It was the same explanation for Words Darker Than Their Wings. Maybe we'll get it for the first time.
Walk The Sky songs:
- One Life with the symphony? What do you think?
- Wouldn't You Rather, in my opinion, works, but I don't know what they might think.
- In The Deep is one of the songs they stopped playing after 2019, which suggests they might not like the song anymore.
- Godspeed might be there. I can't really explain why; it's just a feeling.
- Native Son actually has some strings in the original version, so it will probably be there.
- I haven't heard Take The Crown, Indoctrination, or The Bitter End yet.
- Pay No Mind could work if the synth part was played by the symphony.
- Forever Falling might work if they are willing to include two Mark songs.
- I haven't heard Clear Horizon, Walking On The Sky, or Tear Us Apart yet. For the songs they haven't played live, I doubt they will include more than one, but I don't know which. Popular opinion from this thread seems to point to Walking On The Sky.
- Dying Light was referred to by the band as "the most epic [they've] done since Blackbird." That suggests that they might do it.
That gives us another 6 songs. We're at 21. Now to put it in order:
Slip To The Void
Addicted To Pain
All Ends Well
Native Son
Cry Of Achilles
In Loving Memory
Fortress
Godspeed
Pay No Mind
Brand New Start
Ghost Of Days Gone By
Dying Light
The End Is Here
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Forever Falling
Waters Rising
Watch Over You
Walking On The Sky
Broken Wings
Blackbird
Open Your Eyes

I haven't heard those songs in full before. I know that Indoctrination has the scream part, as well as the solo that sounds almost exactly like The Writing On The Wall, but I haven't heard the rest of it. The other songs, I can't remember any part of. I've only heard about half of Alter Bridge's songs.MuffinMcFluffin wrote:Does this just mean you haven't heard them play these live yet, or that you haven't heard these songs before?maximzub wrote:- I haven't heard Take The Crown, Indoctrination, or The Bitter End yet.
