After giving the album some time to settle, I think I'm at the point where I can (try) to rank the songs best to least:
1. Dark Trip
2. Cauterize
3. Radical
4. Arm
5.Flying Monkeys.
6. Sympathy
7. Providence
8. Fall Again
9. Another Heart
10. Tie the noose (don't care for this one)
Imo, it's hard to rank things and make lists, ugh.

I still don't get the hype for Dark Trip. But my taste seems to be pretty much off of the rest of yours, guys.

That bridge and solo tho.

I like the acoustic intro too. The chorus might be the weakest part of the song, but overall it's one of if not my favorite song on the album.Timotheus wrote:That bridge and solo tho.

The chorus is arguably my favorite part of the song. So powerful when that first chord strikes.
Re: The "Cauterize" Listener Review Thread - post yours here
Dark Trip is amazing, and the chorus is the best part, IMO.

My try of a ranking:
1. Another Heart
2. Flying Monkeys
3. Cauterize
4. Arm Yourself
5. Providence
6. Tie The Noose
7. Dark Trip
8. Radical Change
9. Sympathy
10. Fall Again
I see disagreements incoming. I didn't like Another Heart that much in the beginning, but it grew more and more on me. The chorus is incredible as well as the bridge and main riff. Furthermore it is a lot fun to play it on guitar. For hate, send emails to: plsdontkillme@mrslash.com

Think my top 5 has altered in order though not content. NowUbik wrote:Think I've decided on my top five
1. Dark Trip - Awesome bridge and my single favourite moment on the album when the solo drops an octave, and the overall creepy menace vibe suits Mark's voice to the tee. This is actually the song I was expecting Waters Rising to be when it was described pre-Fortress, I think the only way it could be improve for me actually is for Myles to have randomly turned up during the bridge.
2. Providence - Love the ostentatiousness, agree with Timo's point though that it at times rushes, could've easily given it a bit more time to breathe with a couple more minutes and been all the better for it.
3. Cauterize - This should really have been the single, it's got the hook and the high energy and some really strong vocals. Have a feeling it wasn't used because of its lack of solo. Showcases the strength of the band all over though, would've grabbed attentions in a way Another Heart really doesn't.
4. Radical Change - Strikes me as a kind of grown up version of Wish You Well in its verses, and the bass line in the pre-chorus is outrageously good. No real weaknesses as a song.
5. Flying Monkeys - Favourite chorus on the album and I still wish it was the title track. Suffers a bit for being straight after the very high energy Radical Change, kind of feel they'd be better off switched over.
Best of the rest: Fall Again
Overall, a very solid 8/10.
1. Dark Trip
2. Cauterize
3. Flying Monkeys
4. Radical Change
5. Providence
Flying Monkeys has benefited from the rest of the album catching up in terms of listens, and Providence hasn't held up as well over time.
For all of the hope that it brings...

I liked Dark Trip because of the mood of the song.
Or to put it another way, I liked the song because I liked the song.
I like the songs that I like because I like them.
ROFL.
