The Writing Thread
Re: The Writing Thread
^ How did that go?
I just realized I have written 28 thousand words since April for this thing I'm working on.

Re: The Writing Thread
Nice
the last 12 days I've written at least 600 words each day. Kinda a challenge I'm doing with a friend. We're trying to keep this up till the end of the year. Not sure if we'll be able to keep doing this every day, but so far it's been great!

Re: The Writing Thread
That's a good tempo!
When I sit down and write, like today, I rarely write less than a thousand words (though that happens, too). The problem is, since April, I've only had August and September completely free, not having to study and all. And those periods, when I'm free, I usually just spend contemplating or with a completely blank mind.![LOL :lol](./images/smilies/lol.gif)

Re: The Writing Thread
Yea, the hardest part for me is to find to something to write about as well. I used to write a lot of fantasy, until I found out I really sucked at it, lol. Lately I'm more into writing thrillers, which is a lot of fun.
Do you write in English or Serbian btw?

Re: The Writing Thread
Wow, that's impressive, both of you Lotha and Timo.
My method of writing tends to go with my feelings sometimes, so whenever I feel like writing, I would just sit down and write. But, most of the time, I'd write parts of the songs and then I'll come back to it once the inspiration tank is full.![Happy :)](./images/smilies/smile.gif)
Now, I've got 2 songs I've been writing for the last 4-5 days, called 'Marooned' and 'Already Over' which I really like...![Happy :)](./images/smilies/smile.gif)

Re: The Writing Thread
Well, right now, since I'm not doing any actual writing, (by that I mean I'm not writing the scenes and the actual story, just working on the ideas), I tend to write in the mix of Serbian and English, whatever comes more natural in a particular sentence.
I'll probably write in Serbian, and maybe translate it at some point, at least for the exercise.

That's the best way to write, if you can pull it off. If you feel like writing often enoughDecay wrote: My method of writing tends to go with my feelings sometimes, so whenever I feel like writing, I would just sit down and write. Re: The Writing Thread
I'll post what I have written so far, in those 2 songs I mentioned up above.
''Already Over''
[Verse 1]
When it’s already over
Why do you still wanna hold her?
She gave you nothing, but heartache and pain
You’re like the Sun and she’s the rain
She makes you wanna go away
So why do you wanna stay?
You’re a fool who’s addicted to pain
[Chorus]
It’s already over
Why do you keep on waiting?
Why do you keep on hoping?
It’s in vain
Nothing left but tears and wretched heart
Should’ve known it from the start
It’s already over, already over
So say goodbye
[Verse 2: not finished]
It’s hard to live with a busted heart
''Marooned''
[Verse 1]
Where’s all of this coming from?
Damn sure it ain’t from your heart
‘cause you ain’t got one
In this courtroom, there’s no clemency
Love is bleeding
As we are receding
Further and further from what we used to be
[Chorus]
We’re slowly dancing
In a room burning with memories and heartbreaks
I can’t stop, but yearning, for you
It’s stomach churning, but I’m still your fool
I’ll always fall for you
[Verse 2: still unfinished]
I’ve been trying to see through your stare
It’s impossible, almost like you’re not there
You’re a riddle and should be ignored
I’ve been through that hell before
In this courtroom, I’ve been marooned
[Chorus]
We’re slowly dancing
In a room burning with memories and heartbreaks
I can’t stop, but yearning, for you
It’s stomach churning, but I’m still your fool
I’ll always fall for you
[Bridge: unfinished]
Leave love bleeding
Every vow has been broken
Still we are receding
From words unspoken
Love’s bleeding dry as we’re staring down the end
Everything’s lost/gone and can’t be restored

I like how you used the phrases "addicted to pain" and "bleeding dry"
I like the second one better, but both are pretty solid so far![Yes :yes](./images/smilies/yes.gif)

Um, wasn't really intentional. Those words just popped to my mind, but it's nowhere near to John Mayer's tuneTimotheus wrote:Slow Dancing In a Burning Room, hm?

Very cool stuff, Decay. Good lord, you Serbs write better English than 90% of Americans (which isn't saying much so don't get too carried away
)
What kind of music are you hearing as you're writing those? Is the music heavy and angry or softer and sadder? I can imagine wither tone of music behind those words. Thanks for sharing them!

Re: The Writing Thread
It's the first thing that came to mind when I read it, so if you ever put melody on it I'd try to make it sound as less 'Slow Dancing In A Burning Room' as possible. Just some adviceDecay wrote:Um, wasn't really intentional. Those words just popped to my mind, but it's nowhere near to John Mayer's tuneTimotheus wrote:Slow Dancing In a Burning Room, hm?

Yeah, like Lotha said, it's obligatory, I've been studying English since the 3rd grade, it's been like 8-9 years now. So, I guess I'm pretty good at it. Lotha, on the other hand, is way much better than me.
As I'm writing lyrics, I usually have the melody stuck in my head, even though I suck at singing, but somehow the melody seems to be there, most of the time. But yeah, sometimes it's heavy and angry, sometimes it's softer and sadder, it all depends on the mood.
Being a fan of various genres of music, I write all kinds of stuff, from rock/metal to folk/rap and stuff.
Oh, thanks, dude. I appreciate it, means a lot to me.Timotheus wrote:It's the first thing that came to mind when I read it, so if you ever put melody on it I'd try to make it sound as less 'Slow Dancing In A Burning Room' as possible. Just some advice

Yeup, the melody is there, in my head, but it ain't nothing like John Mayer's tune. That song of mine - 'Marooned', is rather dark, moody and all, because that's the way I've pictured it as I was writing it. I would sing it to you guys, if I knew how to sing.
![LOL :lol](./images/smilies/lol.gif)
The way I'd sing it is... The verses would be sung faster than the chorus, in a meaner tone, I'd try to cool things down a little bit in the chorus.
Re: The Writing Thread
I started learning English since I was very little, watching The Power Rangers
I'm not sure if I even knew how to read back then, and I'd go around the house, trying to say "IT'S MORPHING TIME"
It kinda got into my ear and I always had a knack for it. Which is why I ended up studying it.
But I still sometimes feel like I really suck at English![LOL :lol](./images/smilies/lol.gif)

Re: The Writing Thread
I still have to push myself in filling a page of my notebook with words/phrases. but I have filled 4 pages but I have not written continuously. It works and I also had written a verse and chorus part of a song titled "The Best I'll Ever Get." It's about a person who is living his life like a pet dog on a leash (where the inspiration actually came from, I was walking my dog one night and we passed by few stray dogs and they avoided my dog with a disgusting-like stare, probably because of the leash
).
Here's what I had written for it so far.
[verse]
Sleeping on concrete
having dreams of me finding myself
Chains around me
Tethered to the gates and no signs of getting out
Is this what I really want
It's not like I have another choice
But it's not so bad to see myself in another life
[chorus]
How does it feel around your neck
Losing control, out of breath
All I say, there's no other way
to live this life and I guess
This is the best that I'll ever get

You have an interesting concept there. Funny how inspiration works

Yes, definitely. ^
