Intro riff to Calm the Fire
Anyone notice it kind of has like an 8-bit sound right before the opening riff? Haha I think it's cool. I just wanted to see if anyone else caught it or if I'm losing my hearing from blasting this new record on my headphones.
Re: Intro riff to Calm the Fire
^ When I heard the intro I was also like: f**k yeah! sweeps!

Re: Intro riff to Calm the Fire
Sounds like sweeps to me. There's sweeps here and there in a couple of solos too. I can't think what songs off the top of my head though.

Re: Intro riff to Calm the Fire
I'm not sure that's guitar.... it sounds digital to me.
Re: Intro riff to Calm the Fire
I'm not so sure if that is sweeping. He probably alternate picks a few notes and uses some kind of delay, so that is sound like he is playing 4567 notes not only a few.

*Not gonna reply to that, not gonna reply to that, not gonna reply to that*
I don't think Mark's sweeping. I think it's some kind of delay/phaser effect, like Dolo said.

Reminds me of the mid-bit in Starlight. Definitely synthish.
For all of the hope that it brings...

Re: Intro riff to Calm the Fire
It's Mark doing some bad ass sweep picking with some kind of effect.

I've noticed influences on a few songs - it's how I've learnt to identify them so quickly! Calm The Fire is the Muse song, The Uninvited is the Tool song, Bleed It Dry is Slipknot song and Lover is the Alice In Chains song!

Cry of Achilles and Fortress are definitely Alter Bridge songs.facepollution wrote:I've noticed influences on a few songs - it's how I've learnt to identify them so quickly! I think Bleed It Dry has a bit of a Mastodon vibe. I remember that Myles said that that riff in the verse was inspired by Mastodon. The chorus sounds a lot like Mastodon too imo.

Most definitely! I'm not in any way saying they've copied anything, just so we're clear!dolo1993 wrote:Cry of Achilles and Fortress are definitely Alter Bridge songs.facepollution wrote:I've noticed influences on a few songs - it's how I've learnt to identify them so quickly! That's not Mark playing sweeps. They are arpeggios, but they are synthesized
Re: Intro riff to Calm the Fire
Is no one else getting a Mastodon vibe from the really sick riff in CoA that's right after the nylon stops?
