The Official Queens of the Stone Age thread

Post by Timotheus »

Some fans on here? :D
In March 2013, Queens of the Stone Age announced that the new album, entitled ...Like Clockwork, would be released in June 2013 on Matador Records.[59][60] A press release, issued by Matador at 9:00am EST on March 26, 2013, revealed further details of the album, including further guest appearances: Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys and UNKLE's James Lavelle. In addition to Grohl's contribution, the record also features performances by former drummer Castillo, as well as tracks by new drummer Jon Theodore (ex-The Mars Volta, One Day as a Lion).[61][62] Queens Of The Stone Age premiered a new song "My God Is The Sun" at Lollapollooza Brasil on March 30, 2013,[63] a performance in which Theodore made his live debut. The studio version of the song premiered on Lowe's BBC Radio 1 program on April 8, 2013.[64]
Guest appearances
Dave Grohl – drums, percussion (all tracks except 1 and 10)
Alex Turner – vocals on "Kalopsia"
Trent Reznor
Jake Shears
Sir Elton John – piano, vocals on "Fairweather Friends"

James Lavelle
Joey Castillo – drums, percussion on "Keep Your Eyes Peeled"

Ooh, I'm intrigued. I really liked Them Crooked Vultures, so I've been meaning to get into Queens for a while now. Any other albums you'd recommend in the meantime?

If you liked TCV, you'll probably like Qotsa too :D

For me it's a bit of a tie between Rated R and Songs for the Deaf. These are the 2 albums that got me into them. I think SFTD has got the best songwriting all the way through, a bit more experimental. It's also got Dave Grohl on the drums, so if you liked TCV that's a nice link. Rated R's just a really raw, solid record.
All of their records are really good though, you might want to check out their selftitled debut too.

These are my favourite songs on both albums:

Rated R: Feel Good Hit Of The Summer

Songs for the Deaf: A Song for the Deaf

I just listened to all of Songs of the Deaf on youtube (I love that there are full albums there now). It was pretty good. Definitely one I'm interested in buying.

Kalopsia sounds incredible.. This album is shaping up to become pretty awesome! :bow

That preview of Kalopsia sounds awesome. I can't wait to hear Fairweather Friends which has Mark Lanegan on guest vocals. This album is definitely shaping up to be great.

Gonna listen to their new album now. I really liked I Appear Missing when I first heard it. Hoping the rest of the record to be as good as that track.

It's all high quality stuff, some real experimentation for them, but not at the expense of a decent melody. Album of the year for me so far :)

Working with Dave Grohl really seems to push Josh Homme rhythmically. This is a much more mature album than the past couple of efforts. Loving it to pieces. I think this is going to be a standout for 2013.

Saw these guys last night in Antwerp. They were sooo good!

Setlist:
1. You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, but I Feel Like a Millionaire
2. No One Knows
3. The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret
4. My God Is the Sun
5. Burn the Witch
6. I Sat by the Ocean
7. Like Clockwork
8. In the Fade
9. If I Had a Tail
10. Kalopsia
11. Little Sister
12. Fairweather Friends
13. Smooth Sailing
14. Make It Wit Chu
15. I Appear Missing
16. Sick, Sick, Sick

17. Go With the Flow
Encore:
18. The Vampyre of Time and Memory
19. Feel Good Hit of the Summer
20. A Song for the Dead

The bolded songs were my highlights, but every song was good really. Never got bored.. They played 9 new songs and most of their hits/crowd pleasures. There was only one song I missed on the setlist was A Song For The Deaf, but I knew they weren't gonna play that.
The crowd was a bit dull during the new songs, but that didn't take anything from the performance imo. If I get the chance, I'd definitely see these guys again! Great live band :bow

(not my video, I was in the middle of the crowd)

Finally gonna give this band a proper listen tomorrow. I like a couple of their songs from various albums, but I'm gonna listen to more of their stuff. :)

Any fans of the new album? It's a bit more fun than the last one, which was a lot darker and more emotive.

Head Like A Haunted House and Feet Don't Fail Me Now are both such bangers. I know Mark Ronson has received a lot of shit for the production on this album, but I think he's done a great job. I was a bit skeptical after the first single, which took some time to grow on me, but as a whole, it's a great sounding album.

Ehhh not feeling this song either. Guitars lack balls, and Homme's vocals are also all over the place. The songs is just kinda corny which I can't say I've ever heard a corny QOTSA track. Definitely sounds side project-ish to me. ABS-CBN Shows the news of Stone age.
I still have hope though. The "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" track sounded good and the "Gold" trailer still has the QOTSA weirdness that I love, but the fact that Homme said this track was one of the pillars and the starting off points of the album has me worried a little.
