Subscription / emails
Subscription / emails
I remember getting email messages in response to new posts on the old board. That stopped happening when things got glitchy. Now I can't quite remember how it worked - do you have to manually subscribe to every thread or subforum? I read the FAQ and see where the buttons are. Maybe I subscribed to a few on the old board and just don't remember doing that. I do remember turning some off when there was too much traffic, but it was nice for some threads where there was less traffic. For some reason I was thinking I automatically got an email when there was a late reply to a thread in which I posted, but maybe I'm mixing that up with another site?

Re: Subscription / emails
I'm not 100% sure about how the notifications work, but I'm pretty sure you need to subscribe to each thread or subforum individually. Please feel free to report back in this thread and let me know your findings. I'd be curious to know how it ends up working.
Re: Subscription / emails
If you go to:
User Control Panel >> Board Preferences >> Edit posting defaults
There's a check option for "Notify me upon replies by default:"
Does that have anything to do with this? Doesn't say anything about email notification though.

Re: Subscription / emails
Alright, I had subscribed to this thread, and as soon as you (Andy92) responded, I got an email.
In response to your question, that option has to do with whether or not you would like to be automatically notified of responses to topics that you create. You will see that when you go to create a new topic, there is a check box saying "Notify me when a reply is posted." Ticking that box will simply subscribe you to the new topic once you have submitted it.
Likewise if you go to your Control Panel and enable the "Notify me upon replies by default" option, it will automatically tick the "Notify me when a reply is posted" box whenever you create a new thread. Does that make sense?

Re: Subscription / emails
Okay so it basically keeps you from having to check that box every time you make a new thread if you want to be subscribed to all of your threads? Makes sense.

Re: Subscription / emails
To add: that nly works on threads you have posted in. If you want to follow a thread in which you dont actively partake you would need to click the subscribe in the top lefthand corner of the thread.

Re: Subscription / emails
Thanks everyone, I must have had that option on, will try that and pay more attention to all the options next time I start a thread

Re: Subscription / emails
you could always check your user panel on the old forums to see what your settings were over there.
