So. A week since the last post, made by me, in this thread. Does anyone have anything they want to talk about? I got some interesting concerts in the next three weeks. Going to see Delain with Amorphis and Anneke van Giersbergen next Friday in Anaheim, got the Self-Help festival in San Bernardino the next day seeing bands like A Day to Remember, Beartooth, and I Prevail among many more bands, and going to see The Who at the Hollywood Bowl in LA in three weeks (I got a ticket for the far back seats for $27.00 on Groupon). Fun times still looming, but not as high as two weeks ago.

I'm going to see AB on Monday. Show #8 for me. Have been a fan since release day 2004, but only started going to the shows near the end of the ABIII run.

Man, a crapton of shows has shown up on Groupon and I'm already busy enough as it is for October and November. Here's the list of bands whose shows is on Groupon at a pretty good price (less than $30.00 for GA) in the LA/Orange County area.

Atreyu
Gwar
Arch Enemy
In Flames (Red is also on the bill)
Black Stone Cherry
Ice Nine Kills (along with the rest of the line-up on the Octane Accelerator Tour)
Judah & The Lion (GA tickets are $17.50. That's really cheap for a show at the Wiltern).

The one show I really want to go to is Black Stone Cherry, but their show is on the same day as Switchfoot's in Riverside and Switchfoot playing like two hours+ sets including some deep cuts and starting their show with about an hour acoustic set. I can't pass that after seeing them this year and they put an incredible show. I guess I will miss out on seeing BSC.

I've been busy

I haven't posted in a week because I've been reading Kev's Commas Unknown posts.

Oh, and it was 79 here on Wednesday and snowed yesterday and is back to the 50's today.

At the City National Grove of Anaheim for Delain and Amorphis. I barely know any of these bands but a fun time is to be had.

How was Delain? I love Charlotte Wessels but I've never seen them live.

I had a good time watching Delain. They brought a lot of energy. Charlotte sounded good. I liked the drum/guitar solo section in the middle of the set. Charlotte also acknowledged a little girl in the front of the crowd that also held a sign on the end of the set that says "We Are the Others" and what do you know? That's the closing song of the set so they dedicated the song to her. It's a small thing, but it's a nice gesture to make someone's day on that show.

Also, as a plus to me, the person that was selling the shirts announced that whoever got a presale ticket for Delain with a presale code "Advance" gets a free shirt and what do you know? My ticket says that and I got it on Stubhub, so yay me for getting a free shirt. Helps offset a bit from the $38.00 that I paid for the ticket.

Now the sad news, there was only like 300 people that showed up for the show. In a venue that can hold around 1,700 people, that is really concerning and I think I know why the turnout is small. I've said this before regarding other bands like Big Wreck and Winery Dogs. Bands and promoters shouldn't be booking both a Los Angeles show and a show in Orange County in the same touring month unless they are a major household name. Doing so would lower the attendance of one of these shows and that show would be the OC show. This bill were not big mainstream household names since they are solid bands in a really niche genre and market so they are not able to draw full crowds in both LA and OC shows in the same week. They can still sell out a show if they stick with one show in the SoCal area and that would be the LA show.

Also, the tickets were a bit too steep for this bill. $46.00 with fees included, but I get it. It costs a fair amount of these European bands to travel here to the states in relatively not so large venues compared to Within Temptation and Nightwish that can pack the house in small theaters that holds 2,000 people in SoCal. I kinda wish Delain was on the bill on the Within Temptation tour instead of In Flames last Winter (In Flames is playing in the Observatory in Santa Ana that holds only 500 people this November compared to the 1,800 that they played in LA with Within Temptation). They would have played in front of a bigger crowd, played for an hour, and get a much more larger reaction, but I'm sure this band, as much as they love touring with bands like Within Temptation and Kamelot, they want to standout as a headlining draw since they do have the ability to deliver a standalone headlining set.

Dragonforce also played on the same day at the Observatory at Santa Ana which is basically 20 minute drive down one street. I kinda wished I saw them instead since tickets were slightly cheaper than Delain, but I decided to commit to seeing Delain and I had a good time.

Jim hasn't posted here in a long time. In fact, a few months ago, there was a period where the mods were not here at all and we got horribly flooded by all kinds of porn and video game advertising links etc. Thankfully, Zaz becoming a mod helped mitigate the issue.

Shout-out to Cameron aka Zaz. I really liked your posts about the listening party. I hope to one day meet Myles too and have a short convo like that. That dude is a living legend.

On another note, now the album is out, are we still going through with the board theme change to fit Walk the Sky?

And, yes, zaz is blocking porn, which is kind of symbolic when you think about it

Jim still drops by occasionally but he's upped his sig skills and does professional art online (check James Vaughn Art on FB) as well as for The Fallen State (kickass UK band from Barnstaple).

We’re working on new graphics. Been working on them for the past 3-4 days. Admittedly, we waited too long lol, but they’re coming!!
