Brian Marshall must go
Brian Marshall must go
Alter Bridge needs a backup vocalist in the worst way, to save Myles voice and make the songs sound fuller live.
The only guy that can be sacrificed is Brian Marshall. He refuses to sing any backup. Doesn't even have a microphone on stage.
We need a bassist that is willing to sing backup parts. This entire tour there are some parts in some songs where Myles doesn't sing at all in order to save his voice. Example: the outro of Addicted to Pain. Also, some parts of Show Me a Leader.
Why doesnt he want to help Myles out?
Tremonti's voice doesnt cut it, plus he's too busy shredding to take that on.
What do you guys think? Is Marshall that much an asset in the band that he needs to stay? Is he so well-liked by the band members that we don't dare entertain the thought?

Re: Brian Marshall must go
I was really hoping this was going to be a tricky "...into the hall of fame" type post.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I'mma suggest pumping the brakes on this one. In answer to your last couple questions, yes, and yes. Marshall brings a bass touch that is so undeniably "Alter Bridge" that you probably don't even realize it. It's easy to overlook his accomplishments when Tremonti is indeed shredding away, and we have the immense talents of Myles shining front and center, but Marshall and Flip are the backbone of this band and, regardless of the talent level of anyone who might play in his spot (I won't say "replace" because he's unreplaceable), the sound wouldn't be "Alter Bridge" without either of them.
Plus, he's a bang-up dude and kicking him out of the band (again) would be a disgrace.

Why does AB need a bassist to sing backup vocals anyway? Is this a requirement to be in AB or something? Why should that be the case?
Personally, I wouldn't mind it if AB has got some better vocal harmonies approaches or have Mark and Myles harmonize better with each other like Zac Brown Band does as oppose to the multiple Myles layering that we have seen in recent AB albums, which does seem a bit tiring when hearing the album and sounds a bit empty when it comes to the live renditions.
However, if they opt not to, then to put it simply, it's just how it is going to be with these guys since they are at that point in the band's lifespan where no one, and I mean no one, but themselves can dictate how they want to present themselves as a band. Suggestions are fine, but they have to make that final call for themselves if they feel it is for the better.

Whatever his input is on the bass from ODR not being enough to what it sounds like now though, that's gotta change. That's all I know for sure.

They're a band, not a company.
Kudos on the massive balls to bring this up on an AB forum though.

Garbage idea. Brain is as much Alter Bridge as are Mark, Myles, and Flip. His bass lines are pure genius. Their sound and overall feel would be sorely lacking without him.
Even if Brian was expendable, good look finding a backing vocalist who could do what you're suggesting. Myles has more talent, better technique, and a wider range than the vast majority of professional singers. If he finds a certain vocal part challenging, no backup singer is going to successfully fill in.

Indeed this exceeds all historical Catullo-bullshit ever written over here.

Re: Brian Marshall must go on
Scott Stapp can sing. Maybe he wants to play the bass?

Re: This is why they call me the fixer. (As of right now)
Easy compromise: everything remains as is for studio albums, but Mark and Brian trade instruments live. Bass is a little easier so Mark can focus on singing, and Brian can go to work on lead guitar! Win-win!

Re: Brian Masrhall must go
I agree with OP. When I took bass guitar lessons, Week 1 was vocals, week 2 vocal harmonies, week 3 the E string. No reason Brian isn’t singing.

Does Brian needs to leave? No
Does Myles needs to stop recording 1, 2, 3 and 4 voices on their songs?

Re: Brian Marshall must go
I think Tremonti should go. All he does is play on his guitar. But the guy that comes on stage before each show to sound test his guitars plays just as well and likely makes much less. They should save money and cut their losses.
Re: Brian Marshall must go
I say we go the other way, and rename the band to Alter Brian.
