Fozzy's Judas album. The 29th album released in 2017 that I have listened to.
Let's see how this one fares. They haven't really written an album lately that matched the quality of Chasing The Grail to me and I don't see this one breaking the trend. I do see this album getting them more respectability.
Judas, the song, has been blowing up nicely. 10 million views on Youtube and a top 10 single on active rock radio. AB didn't even accomplish any of that with Show me A Leader or My Champion, so Chris Jericho, Rich Ward, and co. must be doing something right in tapping into the mainstream and the track getting great exposure as a result (probably helps at lot that Jericho is still on WWE TV at times and has been one of the brighter spots of the product with his list and stuff).

Judas was voted the #1 song of the summer on Octane. It's done crazy well.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
That was my thought the first time I heard it. I liked it but didn't see it becoming such a widely successful song like it has. The chorus and main guitar riff are both pretty catchy/memorable though which is really what makes a single stick when it comes to radio. One Drew Remains wrote:Wow. I thought it was ok. Re: What are you listening to right now?
All right, I got to a week to go before going to my two concerts and I got five albums I want to listen through from this band before the shows, so let's start with this one.
Breaking Benjamin's Saturate album.
Edit: That was actually a much more enjoyable listen the second time I listened to it in full. Let's keep going.
Breaking Benjamin's We Are Not Alone album
Edit x 2: All right. We Are Not Alone was not too enjoyable outside of their main songs (So Cold, Sooner or Later, Simple Design, Follow, Firefly), but maybe this next album has aged well.
Breaking Benjamin's Phobia album
Edit x3: Screw it, I'm just going to listen to the remaining two.
Breaking Benjamin's Dear Agony (My personal favorite) and Dark Before Dawn albums.

Theory of a Deadman - Echoes
I'm not a fan of Theory of a Deadman, but I've been listening Echoes sporadically throughout the day. It's a good song if you like sappy post-grunge ballads which I do. They had their lead single, Rx (Medicate), of their new album. Did not like that one. I also noticed they shortened their name to just Theory. I wonder why.

Trivium - Betrayer
Really digging this one, the drumming on this record so far has been top notch!

Started getting into Trivium after the last album, but REALLY digging the 3 songs they've put out so far from the new one. Can't wait for the album on Friday. Like this more than Heart from Your Hate, but not as much as The Sin and the SentenceAB4Lyfe wrote:Trivium - Betrayer

Just gave Betrayer a listen because of a feature on UG. Pretty impressive. The Sin And The Sentence is awesome as well.

New Veil of Maya album. Good mix of the heavies and pretties on this one. The heavies are nasty!
Thanks Timo!

Nobody was all that stoked for this album, it now has potential to be one of the better metal albums released this year.Timotheus wrote:Just gave Betrayer a listen because of a feature on UG. Pretty impressive. The Sin And The Sentence is awesome as well.

Sons of Apollo's Psychotic Symphony album. The 30th album released in 2017 that I have listened to.
Well, this is a supergroup that Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian (both ex-Dream Theater members) has formed with Billy Sheehan, Jeff Scott Soto, and Bumblefoot. I don't know what to expect. This band seems to be tapping into that particular fanbase of those that did not like Dream Theater's The Astonishing (which I liked a lot) and want that more of a "balls to the walls" sorta prog metal sound. This probably will not be for me, but an album listen is an album listen so let's get to it.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Need to hear the new Trivium. I liked the last two, so I'm not sure how I'll feel about this one.
I'm listening to a Goo Goo Dolls song called Fallin Down. It came out an album before they broke. Learning it on guitar.

Trivum's The Sin and the Sentence album. The 31st album released in 2017 that I have listened to.
I do like their last album, Silence in the Snow. Album was good, people actually liked Elvis as a producer in that one, but it's all right to shift gears back to incorporating some harsh vocals in the new album and I hope the timing of those moments are good and the songwriting is strong.
