The Official SMASHING PUMPKINS Thread

The Smashing Pumpkins are my second favorite band of all time.

Their new CD called Oceania released today, I got it but haven't listened to it yet. Did anyone get it? What did you think?

What's your favorite Pumpkins song or moment, past or present?

Not into the new CD :( Maybe I have to give it a listen a few more times...

I still remember the day I got Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness... it was a Saturday... I took the ACT test and afterwards, my dad picked me up, drove me to Best Buy and I bought it :)

Favorite Pumpkins song of all is probably Mayonaise. Dunno why, I just love that song.

Their new stuff is disappointing. But, you're not going to beat a catchy album like Mellon Collie unless you try really hard and get really lucky.

So far the new CD is kinda disappointing. I think there are 3 songs that I like so far.

I remember buying Mellon Collie also. I was in the Air Force, just out of basic training. I bought it while in tech school, at the old SP training dorms in the back of Lackland. I took it up to my room and listened on my little portable CD player and headphones. I played the shit out of those CD's.

It's hard to pick my favorite pumpkins song, but if I had to choose one, depending on my mood it would usually be Here Is No Why. So much emotion in it, and the guitar just sounds so heavy.

The Mellon Collie years with Billy wearing the Zero shirt, that's the pumpkins in their prime IMO.

Billy was on Stern on Tuesday and he played a great acoustic version of Tonight.

Always been a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins. My favorite Pumpkins song atm is Cherub Rock. The guitar solo in the song is one of my favorites of all time.

Not much of a Pumpkins fan myself but they were everywhere for a few years, a lot of that music is still in my head. Caught a 10min interview with Billy on the car radio this weekend: http://www.npr.org/2012/06/24/155599404 ... diate-past

Found these after looking around at Uli Jon Roth stuff. For anyone who is into Billy and/or his views. I didn't really care for him, to be honest, but after watching these I feel like I got to know him a little more. Not only that, he is a fantastic guitar player (AND likes the Scorpions :D , probably my favorite band of all time).

Gotta admit, they're my all-time favorite band, but I just can't get into Oceania. Maybe three songs, four is just stretching it. I keep hoping if I keep listening to it that it may grow on me, but it's just not happening and I hate when people say you have to listen to an album for it to grow on you. That's really just forcing yourself to listen to it so many times that your brain starts to memorize it.
Though a lot of supposed 'fans' think that Zeitgeist was terrible, I thought it was a pretty cool album and really displayed Billy and Jimmy embracing new influences. You could definitely hear Terry Date's influence in the music. Even the individual singles they released afterwards like "GLOW" and "FOL" were pretty good, but Oceania...
