Solos on The Last Hero
Solos on The Last Hero
Since no booklet or PDF was provided on iTunes, is there anyone who can list off who plays which solos on which songs on The Last Hero?
Re: Solos on The Last Hero
Myles's -
Show Me a Leader (first one)
Writing on the Wall
This Side of Fate (first)
Crows on a Wire
Island of Fools (first)
The Last Hero (first),
With the rest being Mark. As far as I can tell, anyway.

Myles really stepped it up solo-wise. Not only slower bendy stuff, his more shreddy parts are amazing! Still different than Mark so it's really refreshing.

Agreed. Certainly don't hear Myles solo like that often enough.pokefan_4 wrote:even better.. I love Myles solo in crowsSHEAKENBAKEN wrote:Mark doesn't have a solo in Crows.pokefan_4 wrote:I love Marks solo in Poison and Crows

Thank you. I needed that so I can process the differences.
Re: Solos on The Last Hero
I think this album is by leaps and bounds Myles' best effort in terms of solos. Clearly, to my ears at least, his approach of composing solos beforehand rather than improvising them in studio paid off. His leads still have that signature Myles style with his amazing bends and vibrato, but you can easily notice the extra effort in some of the more well thought out runs and detailed licks within his leads. Really good stuff.
Controversial opinion: Myles' solos are better on this record, as a whole, than Mark's are.

Myles actually wrote all the solos rather than improvised, it definitely has an impact on the 'quality'.

Re: Solos on The Last Hero
Myles still hasn't topped his Blackbird solo in my opinion, but he has some phenomenal solos on this album. Just like on Fortress, Myles outplays Mark on this album. Mark has stepped up his game though, because I thought most of his solos on Fortress were pretty boring.

Re: Solos on The Last Hero
I think BB still stands alone as my favorite solo from Myles, but just because of the number of solos he plays on TLH, and the consistently great quality of each, the overall body of work he contributed to the record is his best effort on an AB album in terms of solos.Timotheus wrote:Myles still hasn't topped his Blackbird solo in my opinion, but he has some phenomenal solos on this album. I agree Mark's solos on his record are better than Fortress overall. His solos are actually really darn good on TLH.
Re: Solos on The Last Hero
It kind of bothers me a bit that Myles screams into his own solo. This part is absolutely epic for me but it is just something which is only possible to produce in studio, they can never play this song live in the same way.Ubik wrote:Myles's are Show Me a Leader (first one), Writing on the Wall, This Side of Fate (first)...
Re: Solos on The Last Hero
We'll be fairly lucky if they play it at all
His This Side of Fate solo is one of the few that can be legit danced to.

Re: Solos on The Last Hero
I don't see them playing This Side of Fate live unless they loop some stuff in for the performance. Or if they do play it without any supplementing tracks, it'll sound very different.Ubik wrote:We'll be fairly lucky if they play it at all

Re: Solos on The Last Hero
I wouldn't say Mark's solos on Fortress are weak at all. Cry of Achilles, Bleed It Dry, Peace Is Broken, all really good solos.

Myles absolutely kills it with his lead parts on this album! I've been absolutely obsessed with Mark's guitar playing for half my life now and unfortunately it's rare that I get much enjoyment out of his solos anymore. Usually one are two great ones on an album is the norm now. I totally get the need to change things up from all the wah and legatto he used to do, but I wish he would mix that stuff in more now.
