For me personally, there's no category of people more intolerable than those obsessed with naturopathy.
For them, natural = good. The world is that simple in their eyes.
And what the fuck is natural, anyway? Seal Earth off and evacuate the planet. That would be a pretty natural environment.

Surely someone would've sailed off the edge by now if Earth was flat. I hope there's an amazing counter argument for this that I haven't heard of before.

When people talk about "the weird part of the internet", this is exactly what they're talking about. This is right up there with midget porn and Slash's Facebook account.

When you order something, track it, see it was sent from Indiana, sat there for 4 days, and is now in Atlanta. I'm in TN. Package flew right over me, and kept on going a couple hundred miles.... Come on now. Shit. 3 day shipping my ass. Sat in a USPS warehouse for 4 business days.

Re: What grinds your gears?
Nonsense like flatearthers isn't deep web. You don't need to dig deep to find bullshit. It's the most available thing there is on this planet, on and off the web.
Re: What grinds your gears?
Not even kidding, whenever people referenced "the Flat-Earth Society" in the past, I used to assume it was a made up thing to mock general absurdity. It's like when Myles stumbled onto Stormfront, I'm now unable to shake off the memory.

Re: What grinds your gears?
Have them eat cyanide. That's natural. In fact, try arsenic. It's an element. You can't get any more natural than that.Violent Corpse wrote:For me personally, there's no category of people more intolerable than those obsessed with naturopathy.

Re: What grinds your gears?
Flat earthers rely on 2 main things:
1) A misunderstanding or shallow comprehension of physics as "evidence". A good example is the reflection thing Lotha posted. Another is "I can feel movement in an elevator but I can't feel the Earth's rotation or the Earth hurtling through space, therefore it doesn't exist. Even my 4 year old understands that."
2) Equalizing the playing field by throwing out all actual evidence. We can do experiments till we're blue in the face inferring it beyond a reasonable doubt, but beyond that we've actually gone to space and took some damn pictures. Even though they don't have any evidence beyond pseudoscience they claim YOUR evidence is all fake. The government staged it or the guy that put a goPro on his weather balloon that goes into the atmosphere used a fish eye lens, etc.
The first one can be addressed with education and sitting down and talking with people (hopefully). The second one, which essentially chooses speculation over demonstration cannot be reasoned with.
If anyone is interested, a somewhat related documentary about changing the minds of people (including the government) who were locked into the supernatural in the 60's and 70's in America is available on YouTube here:
It's about the life of The Amazing Randi. A magician / mentalist that recognized the tricks psychics and faith healers trying to fleece people for money were using (again, even in government psi experiments) and dedicated a good portion of his life to exposing and messing with them. Definitely a wonderful watch if you enjoy documentaries. The saddest part is at the end when one of his lifelong rivals asks what the impact of Randi's life has been, pointing out that psychics and belief in the supernatural is more rampant now than ever before.

Re: What grinds your gears?
Randi is awesome.
It is sad that pseudoscience is flourishing at an unprecedented pace in today's age, but the skeptics and critical thinkers the world over are indebted to men like Randi, for exposing frauds and trickery, leaving us with solid evidence to construct our own arguments and make up our own minds. That's the most a man can do, really.
Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain.

The Amazing Randi is a hero. I love watching his videos on youtube of him debunking scumbag psychics.
Re: What grinds your gears?
I love how flat earthers dismiss gravity as something that doesn't exist and was invented.
