Has anyone here actually experienced anything paranormal such as ghosts haunting the house you live in or something?
I've always for the most part believed in ghosts but from what I can recall I've never had any paranormal experiences or anything.

Nothing definite, but one time I got really spooked.

I've witnessed a "demonic possession" in church once. My brother works in a Christian rehab organization, and apparently there's a guy who's possessed as well. He used to go to a satanic church.
Some scary stuff, even though I believe there's some kind of scientific explanation.

Never experienced anything like that, and highly doubt the veracity of all such stories.

I'm no expert of the human mind, but when you look up some of the mental illnesses that are around it's really not a stretch. Both these people used to be long-time drug addicts, so I can imagine that their brains were traumatized.cheesedip1 wrote:Like what?Timotheus wrote:

I'm a complete skeptic, though my Dad has experienced some stuff that he's unsure how to explain, and he's a trained scientist so is usually as skeptical as me. The power of suggestion is pretty strong, though.
For all of the hope that it brings...

One of my favorite books ever is The Devils of Loudun by Aldous Huxley. He critically examines the case of Urbain Grandier, a smart, educated priest in 17th century France, who was accused, by his enemies (which were many), of witchcraft and possessing several nuns who had nothing better to do with their lives. There was a lot of jealousy and politics behind the whole story.
He was brutally tortured and burned alive.
It is an illuminating read on human psyche, high-handedness and fanaticism.
