The Little Things in "Cauterize"
The Little Things in "Cauterize"
So this is the thread where we appreciate the little things that occurred during a particular song or the album as a whole. This is similar to thread made in the Alter Bridge forum after Fortress was released.
To start:
The bass drum leading up to the second chorus in Tie The Noose
The harmonies before the third chorus in Providence

Re: The Little Things in "Cauterize"
When the extra guitar comes in over the bridge riff in Providence. (2:30)
When the guitar has a real doomy sound to it over the second solo in Providence before going back to the regular sound. (3:56-4:00)
The last "throw 'em all away!" in Sympathy before the sexy solo. (3:25-3:27)
How the beginning of the outro solo of Radical Change mimics the chorus melody (3:45-3:49)
The bubble sounds in Flying Monkeys' bridge (3:12-3:15, 3:25ish)
The rhythm of the guitar at the beginning of Cauterizes bridge (1:58-2:15)
When Mark says "Will be dooooooone!" in the outro of Arm Yourself (3:13-3:20)
The harmonies is Dark Trip's bridge (3:22-3:29)
Marks "FIND!" in Another Heart (3:43-3:47)
The melody of the pre-chorus in Fall Again (1:53-2:06)
The Outro/Pre-Solo Riff in Tie The Noose (2:12-2:33)
I may have trouble grasping the concept of "little things" as they may be big things and don't count but those were the parts of the songs I appreciated. I couldn't really find any "small things" because Cauterize is so huge as a whole that everything is monumental to the songs. The things I picked are not necessarily my favorite parts of the song, either, though.

In the third chorus of Arm Yourself, you can year Erock singing backing vocals "yeaaaaaah" but there is also either a synthesized version of Wolfie's voice (unless he's harmonizing with Eric) or a guitar going "ooooo" slowly up and down.

-Wolfie's backing vocals right before the solo kicks in in Dark Trip
-The long sustaining notes after Mark's solo in Dark Trip. The last second before the chorus kicks in in particular.
-The background vocals in the second verse of Sympathy
-The rhythm of the first few seconds of the solo in Sympathy

Re: The Little Things in "Cauterize"
-To me it seems that Mark kinda refers in Dark Trip to Flying Monkeys. That "All the days, all the lies" in Monkey has basically the same melody as the "All the pain, all the lies" in Dark Trip.
-Mark tends a lot to end the songs by screaming some words of the chorus or the song title. Like in Another Heart he ends with "Find me Another Heaaart" and there are more songs on the album that end the same way. I dont know which ones, because I just came from work and my brain is pretty much broken right now

There is some common phrases repeated between the whole album, such as "lick your wounds"

The bells in Dark Trip. Just adds so much. Still reminds me of the Futurama theme song lol.

It may just be me, but the finger-picked intro to Providence reminded me of the intro to the On My Way acoustic. Made me smile
The solo to Dark Trip is I think my favorite off this album. Really Really shows the emotional side of Mark's guitar playing.

The intro to Sympathy reminds me of Creed Hide's intro.
Re: The Little Things in "Cauterize"
The very last part of Sympathy which reminds me of an old tune "Brother of Mine' written by Stapp, Tremonti and Hestla back in 2001, I think.

Re: The Little Things in "Cauterize"
Wolfie's bass line in the "you will learn/know" parts of Cauterize. I'm finding a lot of my oh snap moments are little things on the bass.
For all of the hope that it brings...

Re: The Little Things in "Cauterize"
The section before the last chorus of Providence is probably one of my favorite moments on this album. The vocals dont sound like any thing I've heard before. i dont know how exactly to describe it, its one of the coolest things i think mark has done in Tremonti so far. Sounds like a bunch of ghouls singing in that eerie tone. idk how else to put it.

Re: The Little Things in "Cauterize"
You do realize that's pure vocal effects, right? It's been altered and produced so much it's not even funny. But I do agree that that section of the song is awesome and I won't let the vocal effects take that away from it.austinjhnsn wrote:I know its not really a little thing but no one has seemed to mention it:
