The "Cauterize" Listener Review Thread - post yours here!

Post by AHart96 »

With people beginning to get their copies of Cauterize, I feel now would be the appropriate time to start this thread. Post your impressions here as/after you listen to the album! Can be a simple "I love _____'s chorus" or it could be a detailed song-by-song breakdown, ranking, etc. Looking forward to hearing everybody's thoughts! Enjoy the album! :peace

All I'm going to say for now is, Cauterize should've been the single. Colossal and beautiful!
For all of the hope that it brings...

So far, Radical Change, Cauterize, Sympathy and Providence are the best.

SHEA'S SHORT AND TO THE POINT ALL-CAPS REVIEW.

HOLY FLYING MONKEYS I''M IN LOVE WITH THIS ALBUM.
ALL I WAS IS GARBAGE COMPARED TO IT.
MARKS VOCALS ARE AMAZING IN EVERY SINGLE SONG.
HIS SOLOS ARE SHREDDTASTIC AND OH SO TASTY
THE RIFFS ARE BREAKNECK WORTHY
THE PRODUCTION IS UNBEATABLE
IT'S NOT LONG ENOUGH

I'll quote myself:
After 1 listen I have to say Arm Yourself is the winner for me. Great song, one of the few with a chorus which is not too 'hooky' for my taste. And heavy as *beep* of course. :D
Other highlights for me were:
- Radical Changes doing melody and heavy exactly right
- Dark Trips flow, bass playing and bridge/solo part
- The part where the vocals start in Fall Again
- Tie The Nooses pre-chorus and chorus, great bridge too.
- Providence being very Alter Bridge-ish, needs more listens because this one is a grower for sure.

On my first listen I can't really give a comprehensive review but I do have a few thoughts.

I'm hearing sounds I didn't think I would which is interesting.

Dark Trip solo is real good and I'm sure I'll love it more with time. Same goes for Sympathy.

Marks singing has gotten a lot better and he's clearly a lot more confident with his voice.

And I finally get the Save Me reference. Although I definitely think that riff is used much better in Fall Again.

Also, is anybody getting a Creed-ish vibe from some of the melodies and sounds? I mean obviously it's way heavier, but something just sounds very Creed-like to me.

The heavy riffs are all pretty shredderish. I like this. The chorus of Arm Yourself is sick, Providence is finally a song with a beautiful fingerpicking riff. The song as a whole is pretty much one of my favorites. But it's hard to tell which song I like the most. Every single one is just pretty much the definition of perfection.

Yeah, I feel some Creed vibe aswell in few songs.

^ Didn't listen close enough to really give an opinion on them individually, but yeah enough solo's (some small, some huge) on there. They are pretty good, very Mark though.

Man. Having iPhone as my "computer" makes me wanna throw my phone through the wall. You know that stupid smirk you get when you're really mad? Yeah, I'm perma smirking.

At the hospital with my sick wife missing work with nothing to do.

So frustrated.

:lol

If you have a sick wife and you're at the hospital with her; The last thing you should be doing is trying to listen to the new record unless your wife allows you to.

Only 3 songs in and Wolfie really is the star of the record so far for me. Amazing addition to the band.

It's a waiting game. She loves Tremonti and we just sit here awake doing nothing for 16 hours a day and sleep as much as we can.

Thanks for the input though :)
