It's really nice cause we're so used to the short one on the album.

I ended up downloading the extended version and deleting the standard version from my iTunes.

I did the same thing. I felt I was missing out using the standard version.

I've only listened to the short version 2 or 3 times. Did the same thing.

I totally understand why the long version didnt make it on the album. That extended solo is just random scale legato stuff. No cool melody or so.

The longer version is better. I remember him telling me he was trying to pull away from all the legato stuff so maybe that's why they trimmed it :/

Listening to it now I'm so glad he, besides doing less legato stuff, also dropped that annoying wah. He overused it on his album solo's, and still overuses it live imo. For me it totally ruins solo melodies and feel.

That's my favorite song on the album... I can air guitar that solo (album version) with the best of them. I really like the longer solo better. It just adds better depth to the solo and that little high note burst at then end before the legato run on the album ending solo is sweet

I really wish he would permanently drop the wah from albums/performances.

any coincidence that the wah is his baby and the word wah sounds awful similar to when babies cry? aren't they spelt the same way, too?

I don't mind it once or twice an album (as used on Fortress) as it's his signature sound. I also loves how he bitch slaps his whammy once or twice an album.

When he solos like in Burn It Down, Buried Alive and Farther Than The Sun, when he slaps his whammy bar and it makes that quick shuddering sound that most guitarists don't make. I think I just coined the phrase "bitch slapping your whammy."
