Rock History Paper on Alter Bridge; need some clarifications

Hey guys, I got this great paper/presentation to do on Alter Bridge (by choice of course) for my Rock music history class and I want some clear clarifications over a couple of things and if the mods would let me, I would like to keep asking some questions over certain facts to make sure that the best paper can be conceived.

So I'll start off with this question, when Alter Bridge got its name from a bridge near Alter Road in Detroit, was there any good symbolism over it? Was it something like not knowing what lies beyond the road or something?

Ok, I got another question. Why did they leave Universal Records again? Was it because the Blackbird album was not promoted as much and that whole Live from Amsterdam fiasco where the album release was two years later than expected?

Yes, in fact, it was full. However, i just felt that this class would be pretty manageable enough to do to get some easy points and in hopes to get a better position next semester, which i have.

I've never heard any of them say specifically why they left Universal. There was that conversation when Mark and Myles were asked about the remix of Watch Over You with Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. Either Mark or Myles said, "Yeah, whatever happened to that?" and the other replied "What happened to everything?" I kind of took that to mean that the didn't get the type of promotion that Universal had promised, which is something we would all agree with. They later made some comments about why they were with Roadrunner and doing their own distribution in the U.S., so you can probably take those reasons and assume that they weren't happening with Universal.

Oh man, that was on the old forums which are archived, but I don't think the search function works there. It was some video interview. Any mods know what I'm talking about?

Go back to after WOY was released as a single sometime in 2008 and start there. Hopefully someone here will have better clues to narrow it down.

You could try a custom google search by just searching through the site. I remember there being some sort of comment about them being disappointed with the promotion efforts of Universal Republic, but I don't have the exact quote to hand.

I remember the guys talking about how Universal thew them that release party in Mark's back yard, and that was the extent of Universal's support of AB.

Ok, well I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I got to do a 15 min. presentation on AB, and I got to find a good song to play that represents the AB sound, but I can't do Blackbird since that's too long. So what could be the best representation of AB that is not Blackbird? I'm thinking Wayward One or Slip to the Void for various reasons.

Brand New Start would be a pretty good one imo. Wayward one would be pretty good too. Slip to the Void isn't a good choice imo, because it's the only AB song with an intro like that.

I thought that too, but they don't combine the iconic AB riffs and melodies, it's pretty much one or the other in those.
