AB VIII Speculations/Writing/Recording

Post by anguyen92 »

I would think it's a bit too early for this kind of thread to materialize. Then again, it's never really too early to think about the next AB album and they are looking like they are getting ready to slowly start the process. There are some interviews from Mark about him trading songs ideas with Myles and it looks like they are going to do some writing as well this October. Before you know it, a couple of more months passes by, and Round VIII is just around the horizons!

Glad that they are doing it "the old school way" this time!

They did talk about retreat style writing around when P&K was put out. That would be awesome!

Looking forward to those pre-release AB-times.
But to be honest I’m focussed and excited for the new Tremonti-album now first !

There is a gap in the Creed tour in October and Myles doesn't start touring until October 27th, hopefully that's when they gonna write.

Yup, Mark confirmed that was the plan recently.
For all of the hope that it brings...

Ah, yeah, missed that bit of discussion in the Tremonti section.

I wonder if they are planning to spend time between both tours in December and early Jan to record the whole thing. Myles will be on tour until late February and I'm sure there will be a Tremonti tour around that time.

So, the guys must be writing as we speak, correct?'

No cheeky Twitter posts from Tim or anybody in the team, that's why I'm getting a bit suspicious.

No idea. There was a big Hurricane that came in close near their area in Orlando, FL. I'm just going to think they are trying to navigate through the logistics post-hurricane.

Wasn't there a "storm" when they were writing Watch Over You (as mentioned in the Making Off)?

High hopes! :D

The lyrics for Before Tomorrow Comes were inspired by Hurricane Katrina if I remember correctly.

My speculation is this will be the first "album year" in the 3 year pattern they skip. Tremonti's new album comes out next week, Myles is recording with Slash currently, and Creed must be getting pressure for new material with how successful this tour has been. Feels like the perfect storm of Alter Bridge getting delayed a bit.

Everything I've seen so far still has them getting together for writing/recording in march.

They literally confirmed on Facebook yesterday they're recording an album this year.

I don't remember where I heard this or if it's true at all, but I do remember reading something that said the next album is going to be a follow up to Pawns & Kings. as much as I love the album, I really hope this isn't the route they're taking, because I love that every album has its own style, and I think they might do the same style as P&K if they did a follow up.

again, no idea how true this is, just thought I'd mention it.

Never heard that. In terms of the lyrics or sonically?

Honestly I kind of hope this is the case. AB should undergo a larger writing cycle than their previous records IMO. The last great AB record was Fortress - everything since has tried to be as great but just hasn't.

Their "retreat" style writing that's been mentioned previously - I REALLY want them to go this route, and actually give it the time it deserves, but I'm not confident that'll play out the way it should. The machine has to keep churning out new content, but I'd hoped that as the guys get older, that formula dies off.

I just want Alter Bridge's "Pneuma" record.

2022 would have been a great window for them to not release an album. They could have spent these years doing album anniversary tours on both sides of the Atlantic and I would think the crowds will still be solid as they drew in the last tour.

2022 - 15 years of Blackbird
2023 - 10 years of Fortrses
2024 - 20 years of ODR

If they didn't skip releasing an album when those kinds of opportunities may have been on the table, I just don't see them backing off from the release an album every 3 years cycle at this point. Did they peak at Fortress? Perhaps, but every band goes through this. They peak and when they peak, it eventually goes downwards. That's how it works hypothetically. That said, it doesn't mean people can't enjoy what the band has done recently, even if it's not on par with Blackbird or Fortress, and I think what AB accomplished in Walk the Sky and Pawns & Kings was tremendous. The Last Hero, not so much. That album's highs were their solid efforts, but the lows were not as enjoyable and is a tough album to go through front to back.

The thing is I don't think their focus is trying to create a big "gamechanger" of an album nowadays. They just go in with what they want to do with their sound and do it as well as anyone should realistically expect of them nowadays in their 50s.
