Royal Albert Hall Setlist/Speculation

*If this is redundant you mods can just move it into the other thread but anyways.*

So as I'm sure you all know, our boys will be playing two LEGENDARY shows on October 2 & 3, accompanied by Parallax Orchestra, at the illustrious Royal Albert Hall in London. This really is a huge milestone for Alter Bridge, and it is a VERY exciting time to be an Alter Bridge fan!

With that being said, I thought I'd make this thread to see what you all think the setlist(s) might look like based on your favorite rarities and knowing the staples that will undoubtedly be played. We've already started dreaming/speculating so I figure why not see what people think the setlist will look like for fun. At this point I dont think a "dream" setlist would be far off, seeing how we will have two nights of glorious orchestral Alter Bridge magic, so have some fun with it!

I want to create sets for this, but before I do let me ask everyone: would they play the same song two nights in a row? Songs like Blackbird or Achilles for example.

I'd bet the two nights would have identical sets. That way for the DVD they can pick and choose audio and video footage from either night depending on performance. Since the band plays to a click now, it would be easy.

I'd guess the same thing about identical sets. Also because the arrangements will have to be deliberately composed for every song -- which I bet is a ton of work -- so they'd be unlikely to do all that work for a song they only play once.

In general I'm just hoping they do a good mix of old staples and rarities, with an emphasis on the long epics.

I hope they choose completely different sets to include as many songs as possible.
They will probably play the usual stuff and with songs never/rarely played. There is a lot to cover.

Identical sets makes most since from a production standpoint for Bluray and audio recordings like was mentioned above. That way if you flub up a lyric or two or get a bad audio feed one night, you have a makeup night to choose from. Also eliminates some of the stress on the band's side.

Got to have Lover in there.

Yes, dude! I didn't even think about Lover. But the dynamics of that song beg for a strings section. Not that it isn't awesome all by itself. Calm the Fire comes to mind as well.
Other songs off the top of my head, Broken Wings, The End is Here, Brand New Start, Watch Over You (the whole song!!!), Wayward One, S2tV (doy!), Make It Right. And then have the orchestra pluck through that bitchin' Fortress intro, then let it breathe, and then have Mark and Myles come in and let loose their heavy. :headbang

I totally can see these songs happen with an orchestra:
One Day Remains:
- Burn it Down
- Broken Wings
- In Loving Memory
- The End is Here

Blackbird:
- Blackbird
- Watch Over You

ABIII:
- Slip To The Void
- Life Must Go On
- Words Darker Than Their Wings

Fortress:
- Lover
- Calm the Fire
- Fortress

The Last Hero:
- Cradle to the Grave
- This Side of Fate
- The Last Hero

Burn it Down
Shed my skin
In loving memory
The end is here
Blackbird
Watch over you
Wayward one
Coming home
Slip to the void
Show me a sign
Life must go on
Words darker than wings
Bleed it dry
Lover
Calm the fire
Fortress
The other side
Cradle to the grave
This side of fate
The last hero

In my head these songs can suit well.
And probably ABIII is the album with more songs to suit.

Realistically, I know they said "rarities" but I don't see them included more than 2 "rare" songs. Everything else will probably end up being staples. But since we don't have pro releases of anything off of Fortress or TLH live, there will still be a lot to dig into.

Ooh, Bleed it Dry could work really well.

I'll pick a few songs from each album that I think could sound incredible:

-The End Is Here
-In Loving Memory
-Open Your Eyes (the bridge..)
-Metalingus

-Wayward One
-Ties That Bind
-Watch Over You
-Blackbird

-Slip To The Void
-All Hope Is Gone
-Ghost of Days Gone By
-Coeur d'Alene

-Cry of Achilles
-Fortress
-Calm The Fire
-Lover

-Show Me a Leader
-Cradle to the Grave
-The Last Hero
-The Other Side

ODR:
In Loving Memory
Burn it Down
Open Your Eyes
Broken Wings

Blackbird:
Blackbird
Watch Over You
Rise Today

AB III:
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Slip to the Void
Ghost of Days Gone By
All Hope is Gone

Fortress:
Cry of Achilles
Calm the Fire
All Ends Well
Lover

The Last Hero:
Show Me a Leader
My Champion
This Side of Fate
The Last Hero

This would be my ideal setlist. 19 songs, more emphasis on the newer material, and the songs I think would work best with the orchestra. A good number of the epics are featured, which I think is mainly what most of us want out of this. As long as we get Words, Blackbird, and In Loving Memory, I will hand over my money immediately for this DVD

No fast song.
As S&M proved in 1999, they don't work with an orchestra.

Aside from that, New Way to Live would be pretty cool. That intro would kick major ass with an orchestra.

Has anyone actually been able to buy a ticket? I was on Live Nation at 10am on the dot and it said both dates and both seating and standing were unavailable.

Of course they do.. Can you imagine Ties That Bind with the orchestra doing Myles's vocal overdubs in the intro? Or the way the chorus could open up with an orchestra in the background?

Master of Puppets sounded pretty amazing with an orchestra. I heard the S&M version before the studio version, and I always preferred that one.

Yeah what Timo said. Fast metal songs can sound fantastic with an orchestra. Like I said before, a lot of it comes down to arrangement.

I'm inclined to agree - fast songs can work with an orchestra if done properly. Especially given Alter Bridge's (and particularly Mark's) writing style where even fast guitar riffs often overlay a slower-paced chord progression. Take "Radical Change" for example (not an AB song but just go with it) -- the riffs are blisteringly fast but the overall melody and chord structure are quite average in pace. I bet a lot of AB songs that seem faster are similarly composed.

If you think all orchestral music has to be slower paced, you haven't listened to many symphonies. Thrash metal wasn't the invention of fast music by any means.
