I'm just curious to see how much practice and rehearsal goes into this. Like how much time will they spend with the orchestra before the actually performing the show? I hope it's something that gets displayed in a documentary of some kind as to how it all came together.

But my top 5 songs I want played (that aren't normally in the set, so I'm not including Blackbird):

1. Words Darker Than Their Wings
2. Cradle to the Grave
3. This Side of Fate
4. Fortress
5. New Way to Live

Battery was a disaster on S&M. Call of Khtulu was incredible.
Nobody can convince me a fast metal song will get improved with an orchestra. It just doesn't work, even if the band and the orchestra are in sync.

I'd chalk "Battery" more up to a) Metallica's erratic tempos and b) most of the song sits at a single chord, so most of the orchestra composition feels forced/made up.

I'd really love to hear a version of Shed My Skin or Down to My Last with an orchestral accompaniment

I wonder if Mark will bring back his clean tone for those concerts. That's something he should really consider IMO.

They'll be playing moody deep cuts. That's great news !

That's cool, but you understand others think the opposite, right? Battery wasn't my favorite cut from that record, but I don't consider it a disaster by any means. I don't think there's any reason fast metal and orchestral arrangements can't work together.

Well I listened to The Other Side this morning and there are a lot of layered vocal melody things in the background that would translate really awesome to an orchestra so I would love for that song to be played.
And they absolutely have to play Words and Fate. They just have to...

I know, 2-3 songs too much, but these are the ones I would love to see with an orchestra behind:

Burn It Down
In Loving Memory
The End Is Here

Wayward One
Watch Over You
Blackbird
Before Tomorrow Comes

Wonderful Life
WDTTW
Life Must Go On
Ghosts Of Days Gone By

Cry Of Achilles
Lover
Calm The Fire
Waters Rising
Fortress

Show Me A Leader
My Champion
Cradle To The Grave
This Side Of Fate
The Last Hero

For me based on what I think might sound best with an orchestra (in no particular order) I'd wanna hear:

One Day Remains
Down to My Last
Shed My Skin
In Loving Memory
Burn it Down
(honestly anything off ODR with the exception of Watch Your Words)

Brand New Start
Blackbird
Watch Over You
(plz no Rise Today)

Slip to the Void
Ghosts of Days Gone By
Show Me a Sign
Words Darker than their Wings

Fortress

Cradle to the Grave
This Side of Fate
Island of Fools
Breathe

Shed My Skin
In Loving Memory
Burn It Down
Broken Wings
Down To My Last
The End Is Here
Open Your Eyes

Ties That Bind
Blackbird
Watch Over You
Wayward One

Slip to the Void
Words Darker Than Their Wings
Wonderful Life
GODGB
AHIG

Achilles(pretty much confirmed)
Bleed it Dry(thinking outside the box a little)
Lover
Calm The Fire
Fortress

Cradle to the Grave
This side of Fate
The Last Hero

Honestly 24 songs... I could see it.
One Day Remains and ABIII seem to be the albums that would work best w an orchestra.

I was just thinking about how cool the intro to Slip to the Void could be with some deep resounding instruments like bigger horns and some light eerie flutes over it. So moody!

Wow – he doesn't explicitly confirm but it definitely sounds like they'll play WDDTW! If so, that would be huge. Cool to hear "Fortress" confirmed as well. Thanks for posting!

WDTTW would fit this event perfectly. I heard them play it during soundcheck here on the AB III tour years ago and it sounded great. Not sure why they never played it live.

The RAH shows are going to be spectacular.
Another photobucket casualty... :(

WDTTW would be amazing, even though I have no clue why words are supposed to have wings. :headscratch

Maybe these are not wings of the words but wings of theirs (of group people?).
Some people have wings that let them fly = flying can be associated with lightness -> sky -> heaven -> faith -> belief - the Mark's part.

However, the words (of Myles) are much darker, heavier, down-to-earth, depressing (?) so the wings will not be able to carry him.

For me it was about the opposition, the contrast: dark words vs. light wings like the opposition between rationalists and believers.
Like "Words Darker Than (What) Their Wings (Could Carry)".

Oh, I don't know, when I've just written it down and read it, it somehow stopped holding water...

If my memory serves me right Words darker than the wings is actually from Game of thrones. I think it was in one of the books.

Yea, it's a quote from the books. Ravens often bring bad news, so dark wings, dark words.

Hm. So in this context the song is about bad news disguised as good news? :headscratch
