If they do proper acoustic / symphonic arrangements for this, I'll be ecstatic. If they phone it in or try to cheat it, it will be a total waste. Fingers crossed.

FYI – I just renamed the topic to be a bit more innocuous as I'd like to allow the conversation to continue without gaining too much visibility.

Good call, A. I think calling it the Hoyal Ralbert All thread would have been too obvious.

Still no actual "official" announcements though. That seems really strange at this point.

Maybe they wanted the London O2 show with the rarities products to get publicized first. That's understandable, though I (and I'll best most all AB fans) have plenty of psychic space for more AB hype, so bring it all on!!

I assumed they didn't want to announce a big London show with Download right around the corner. Keeps AB fans there from potentially passing on Download and waiting until this show in the fall.

Well, it's not like there's that many people going to Download primarily for AB.

It's not like a lot of people are going to go, "Alter Bridge playing at the Royal Albert Hall in the fall? No need to go to Download to see them then."

There could be a good chunk of AB fans in the UK that wouldn't go to Download this year if AB wasn't playing...they have a huge following there. I can't tell you the number of times at ROTR over the years where I've heard people saying they only came for 1-2 big bands.

If this was the US I would totally agree with you. But they do have a pretty big market over there.

^^ Oddly enough, if we were discussing this at the Download festival forum, some people could probably disagree with the idea that certain people wouldn't go to Download if AB was not on the bill, even AB's big UK fanbase in mind.

:yeahthat

Really interesting, the amount of strategic thinking that goes into these things. A lot of people think, "so what if an announcement is leaked early?" But timing and clarity of messaging can make or break a release.

Yeah. But it's possible to overthink these things, too. Like Myles' suggesting his solo album shouldn't come out this year because there's already so much AB stuff going on? What?!?!

It does require some pretty specific messaging to keep things clear and targeted, but there's definitely room for more with AB.

Take this as still a rumor, until we see a poster of it and it's up on their site, and it's officially announced, but apparently someone that's at Download today stated that Myles had announced, during AB's set, that they are doing it. Two shows at Royal Albert Hall on October 2nd and 3rd.

They just confirmed it live at Download. They're returning to London on October 2nd & 3rd to perform with a full orchestra at the magical Royal Albert Hall!
