Vaux wrote:It seems rock radio stations these days are a bit of a joke. The Minneapolis station 93x, I would bet over half the songs they play are from the 90's. Don't get me wrong, I love the 90's rock music but why do they play 20 year old rock music so much? Is it because of the unbelievably sad state of rock music these days (in the US), or is that just what people want to hear? In the 90's if you were playing 20 year old music, you were an oldies or a classic rock station.

Then again, honestly I cannot think of one single rock/metal band that I like that has formed in the past 10 years. But that could be because every time I turn on the radio all I hear is Nirvana, Bush, and Metallica.
Any time I get up to the cities, and turn on 93X (or stream it), I swear I either hear something from a classic rock era, or The Pretty Reckless or Volbeat. Rock 108 in Waterloo (IA) is about the same, with the classic stuff, but they're also an independent station that's not run by one of the big media companies, so they play pretty much whatever.

As for earlier in the thread... yes, payola is "illegal," but it's still the norm. AB are never going to find the mainstream upper tier success that bands like Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Chevelle, etc. get, unless they completely sell out to a top-level label and that's not really their style (I hope). I'd like to see AB hit more commercial success, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Still, it was exciting as all hell when Isolation got to #1... :headbang

Isolation is not exactly a radio song, so I wouldn't be surprised if they played the payola game that one time...

I just don't see this one doing as well as Isolation or even ATP. Sorry to be a downer.

Only 189 plays though during the week. We got to get that number up a lot somehow.

I'll be excited to see both of those things. Will be cool to have something other than the normal performance vid.

#29, I think the single is doing pretty well actually

I'm still genuinely confused as to how Twenty One Pilots is on the Active Rock chart. Especially for this song, which isn't rock in the slightest. They even had to have a guy in the video playing drums even though the beat in the song sounds nothing like actual drums...

Maybe, but still pretty weak to all the other first album singles. Open Your Eyes, Rise Today, Isolation and Addicted to Pain all reached the top 5.
On the other hand, the video is not out yet, and they didn't perform the song live yet... ( :facepalm )

A small comparison with Metallica: They performed their new single like 3 days after the release. AB needs over a month...

They've waited till today to perform it because they've had almost 0 soundcheck time on this tour and been travelling constantly. They weren't going to perform something they haven't practiced and give a mediocre to average performance of a brand new song

It took Isolation 5 months to get to #1.

And yea, I agree it was a missed opportunity to not play it. They should've found a way to practice it before the tour started. But oh well, nothing can be done about that now. It'll debut soon enough.

Yeah, I was in the camp that said AB ought to use this tour to go promote the hell out of themselves and tell the amphitheater crowds they have a new album on the horizon and play the new song and generate some buzz, but AB has never been the model for promoting the hell out of itself. Also, selfishly, I totally wanted to hear it when they were at Red Rocks last week.

I'm looking forward to hearing how it sounds, though! Hopefully the video is about ready and they can really start pushing the single and album.

Kevin, if you read this today...Sunday 8/28/16 it's about 2pm. 95.5 KLOS is doing a promo with a beer company and they're advertising "text what's next" for people to text message what they want to hear. I text them SMAL. Let's see if they play it! 1-800-955-5567 is the number to call or text.

One week later.

29 26 ALTER BRIDGE Show Me A Leader Caroline 340 266 74

It's growing at a slow and steady rate I say. If they continue to get around 80 more plays than the previous week, they should get to number one in about 20 weeks (5 months).

All good man. I requested it a few times, never heard it. They were playing Volbeat and the new Metallica song a lot though.
