Yes, they did.

Even more so.

But that was back in 2001 and they way far more commercial.

Yeah, and Green Day used to huge amount of copies as well, and look at how many copies they sold this week, but guess what? No one can sell huge amount of albums, nowadays, unless you are Drake or Justin Timberlake or Taylor Swift. And if Creed had its peak, now, as oppose to 1997-2002, they still wouldn't sell a high six-figure copies in the first week. It's the sign of the industry changing. Oh well.

Since we're talking about numbers, here's a recap of the Stapp numbers :
Human Clay sold 315.670 copies in its first week in 1999. source : http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/ ... rs-to-no-1
Weathered sold 887.000 copies in its first week in 2001. It stayed at n°1 for eight consecutive weeks. source : http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/ ... rs-to-no-1
The Great Divide sold 94.000 copies in its first week in 2005.
Full Circle sold 111.000 copies in its first week in 2009.
Proof of Life sold 8.600 copies in its first week in 2013 (basically 1% of the Weathered sales).

Back to Alter Bridge.
It looks like Fortress sold 101.000 since its release in 2013.

The first week sales number are wrong though.

"the Stapp numbers" ???????? Those are Creeds numbers, as in Stapp, Mark, Flip and Bmarsh. Comparing yesterday's music industry to today is pointless. We live in the times when new albums are up on YouTube immediately so people do not buy them.

Well, now I'm really confused. According to an article from Billboard.
Rock band Alter Bridge is back in the top 10 for the first time in more than 12 years, as The Last Hero debuts at No. 8 with 28,000 units (27,000 in traditional album sales). The group was last in the top 10 way back in 2004, when its first effort One Day Remains debuted and peaked at No. 5 on the Aug. 28, 2004-dated list. After that, the band notched three more top 20-charting sets with Blackbird (No. 13 in 2007), AB III (No. 17 in 2010) and Fortress (No. 12 in 2013). The Last Hero also opens at No. 1 on the Independent Albums chart, the band’s first leader on the tally.

That stated, at least, they didn't need a big record label to hit top 10.

From what I can gather, the #4 position (as posted here) doesn't include streams. So in terms of traditional albums sold, TLH landed at #4. But on the official Billboard 200 chart—which includes streams—TLH landed at #8. It makes sense that TLH performed worse on the official Billboard 200 because pop groups (Drake, 21 Pilots, etc.) see a much higher proportion of streams by casual listeners than bands like Alter Bridge.

You are talking about the US only, right? Still i'd like a source for that statement. This seems ridiculously low. I'd assume they sold around 500k copies of Fortress. But I have no clue about the music business lol.

Yes, it's for the USA.
The source is Hits Daily Double, and they're reliable.
http://hitsdailydouble.com/new_album_releases

Here is an Internet Archive version where you'll see the Fortress numbers.
https://web.archive.org/web/20161001180 ... m_releases

There is no way AB sold 500k copies of Fortress in the USA.
I've looked at various numbers. KoRn sold 175k, Chevelle 155k, Disturbed 238k, RHCP 350k etc...
People just don't buy CD's anymore, and after the first couple of weeks, the numbers get abysmal.

Man, I even wish/hope they sold 500k copies of AB III and Fortress, total, worldwide. People just don't buy albums in mass quantity anymore. It sucks, because it's honestly worth $10-15 for albums like these, especially when you buy them at Best Buy and get bonus tracks.

TLH sits on #5 here in Switzerland! Best position ever, Fortress was on #14, AB III on #15.
This is great! :cheers

Yeah, not even the biggest selling artists today can sell more than 100-200k in the first week. The days off 800k first week are gone. Creed was a monster back then though.

Adele last album sold over 3 million copies in its first week. The latest Taylor Swift one was also over a million. Those are exceptions to the rule of course, but Creed back then also was an exception. Weathered is still one of the fastest selling albums of all time.

Still at 16. Finally crossed 600 plays a week though. Need about another 1,000 or so to get at least Top 5. Need another 1300-1500 to hit #1. Can this be done?
