Love love love The Other Side. That intro, that final chorus line... a moody ABIII track taken to another level. Having My Champion straight after it also makes a lot of sense.

Poison in Your Veins - it's got spark, gotta give it that. Pretty sure it's a deliberate reference to Rise Today in the lyrics, I still have no idea what I really feel about this song, but I find myself singing along whenever it's on. It's fun! Also works well after My Champion.
For all of the hope that it brings...

This is all reminding me why AB are in my top 5 bands...

*sigh*

At the moment I'm feeling my ranking of AB albums going like this... #1 will always be ODR. It's perfect in every way. <3

1. One Day Remains
2. The Last Hero
3. Blackbird/Fortress tied
4. ABIII

Not a big fan of either of the songs melodically. I think that Poison in your Veins reminds me a lot of Cry a Rivuh in so many ways, and the chorus leaves a lot to be longed for.

The Other Side is alright I guess. I really like the lyrics. Those are there. But it definitely doesn't stand out as like an "oh my instant AB classic" or something.

Can't wait till we're allowed to talk about some of the other songs so I can be positive. But that's how I feel. When AB tries to be "creepy" or whatever they're trying to do in the bridge, I think they swing and miss. The bridge is very weak imo. That's why I use the phrase "Halloween Rock" when I'm describing some of these songs. Like it was produced by Rob Zombie for some rock-horror movie or something.

Most of the venues they play in the states, they usually hold around 1,500 people. Those that are less than that (around 500-600) are in obscure areas like in Nebraska or Destin, FL. Not really a big cities for rock shows, honestly.

I love The Other Side, very much. Lyrically the best song from the album that we've heard so far

Well... that pinch harmonic to really kick off Poison.... almost flipped my table over. That was sick. More of these please.

The wait until the 7th is gonna be brutal.

Doesn't appear that way. Sigh. Oh well. The riff they previewed with Trunk was nuts. Look forward to hearing it. Especially with people saying it's very ABIII like.

Don't know what Myles says for the red part

Poison In Your Veins: Intro has a good upbeat rock riff. Myles comes in with the classic vocal delivery. Again, can’t complain about the melody. The chorus has a ‘fun’ vibe to me. I like how this song maintains the energy level pretty much the whole way through. The bridge being the most different sounding part of the song is pretty expected. Good solo. (7/10)

Poison In Your Veins Lyrics
How long will you cower down
Until you come to see
That courage is the higher ground
That change is destiny
The holy wars
You dare to win
Without fear and no remorse
The time has come to rise again
You were meant to be much more
Somehow
Somehow

CHORUS:
It’s like poison in your veins
Oh it’s the beast you cannot tame
The way you let your fear burrow inside
Will chew you up and spit you out in time
Release the poison in your veins right now
Right now oh

Everything that could have been
Has only failed to be
Cause you wasted all your precious time
You were too afraid to dream
Well dammit all to Hell I say
Don’t waste another day
It’s time for you to own it now
The world is yours to take
Right now

CHORUS: It’s like poison in your veins
Oh it’s the beast you cannot tame
The way you let your fear burrow inside
Will chew you up and spit you out in time
So release the poison in your veins
Come on bleed it out it’s not too late
What you choose to see is falling short
It’s time for you to rise and be much more

Don’t waste another day
Don’t let it slip away
The world is all yours to take
If only you could change

<mark solo>

CHORUS: It’s like poison in your veins
Oh it’s the beast you cannot tame
The way you let your fear burrow inside
Will chew you up and spit you out in time
So release the poison in your veins
Come on bleed it out it’s not too late
What you choose to see is falling short
It’s time for you to rise and be much more
Release the poison in your veins right now
Right now!
Right now!
Right now!

Nope. No The Other Side for the US. That's fucked up. Same thing happened with Tremonti.

see i don't like those lyrics. Poison In Your Veins, to my knowledge, is not some metaphor or common phrased used in any dialect to symbolize anything that the song represents.

Its another case like My Champion imo. You can tell that the chorus and the verses were written separately (for the most part) because they don't blend well with each other at all. My Champion to a far lesser extent.

The Other Side: This track has one of the best intros in their catalogue, IMO. Eerie vocals followed by dark, doomy riff with a slow pace to start. Very eerie vocals from Myles in the verse. Followed by higher vocals in the pre-chorus. Myles is a savage with the lyrics in this song. Dude didn’t hold back with the message :lol The bridge was super eerie and doomy at the same time. Loved Myles’ vocal delivery in it. One of the few songs they've done I actually thought benefited from not having a solo. (9/10)

The Other Side Lyrics
Just step into the dark
It’s waiting
Take your vow
It’s time
Time for you to meet your maker
Playing God tonight

You’re insane
Have you gone too far?
Who’s to blame
For what you are?

CHORUS:
If you believe yours is the only way
Then you’re the fool who lives to die
Will you deserve the Hell you’re gonna pay?
On The Other Side
Once you reach The Other Side
Once you reach The Other Side

The trigger warm, anticipating
The ritual’s begun
You think that Heaven’s gates are waiting
But only Hell will come

You’re insane
Have you gone too far?
Who’s to blame
For what you are?

CHORUS:
If you believe yours is the only way
Then you’re the fool who lives to die
Will you deserve the Hell you’re gonna pay?
On The Other Side
On The Other Side
Once you reach The Other Side

Fade to black
You'll see in time
You will only be denied.

Fools will only be denied!
There will be no paradise!
Fools will only be denied.
There will be no paradise! yeah

CHORUS:
If you believe yours is the only way
Then you’re the fool who lives to die
Will you deserve the Hell you’re gonna pay?
On The Other Side
On The Other Side
Once you reach The Other Side
Once you reach The Other Side

There will be no paradise!
Once You reach The Other Side
There will be no paradise!
Yeah....

It is what it is regarding The Other Side's release... but can't help but agree. That's trash. Everyone gets it but us. I get why they shut it down though so I'll deal with it.

Ahhh, the drawbacks of having a record deal everywhere except the US and having only a distribution deal in the US.

I think in the bridge it's "fade to black you'll see in time"
Also in the chorus I was thinking "well you'll deserve" (instead of will)

Other than that, spot on!

Thanks! I can totally hear the bridge correctly now :) Pretty good the first time for a quick ear-to-document translation though :p

But the chorus is too hard to differentiate. :/

Any idea what he says for the red in Poison?

anguyen92 wrote:Another thing, and this is probably a ridiculous thing to think about but something to discuss, is what sort of people and new fans The Last Hero could bring. If this is believed to be their heaviest album ever, maybe it might bring the wrong kind of fans that some people would like to see in an AB show. Not everyone wants to headbang or be in a moshpit or hear AB bring "chugga-riffs" or "brutal" sounds, and the idea to be chastised for being against AB incorporate that sort of "bro-metal" vibe (it's stupid, I know. AB is never going to go all bro-metal like FFDP, they are too nice, in a good way, to do that.) seems to haunt people's minds. I know it does for me.

I recall a time during AB's first headlining show during the Fall tour in 2014 and I was looking over the Twitter feed for any updates on the shows and I read a tweet where this lady stated that she had to leave the show early, because there was a dickhead that was pushing her around and trying to start pits and stuff like that and I'm thinking that's not the image I want to see convey at an AB show. Maybe, there is a fear that the heavier they get, those kinds of fans keep coming and make it awkward for other fans to be at an AB show. I don't know.

Again, this is a stupid thought to think about, but it's a thought nonetheless.
I remember hearing about this, and it's nuts. I definitely understand not wanting to partake in that kind of thing, but leaving the show, in my mind, is a little overboard. You paid money to be there and take part in the experience, so moving to another spot in the venue seems to be the best option. But that's just me. Some people obviously have different views on it.
This really all depends. If I had waited outside all day to be on the rail, and some guy was pushing me around I'd probably leave because I waited all day to be up front, not to reward someone for their bad behavior.

Struck through: Except I wouldn't leave. I'd grab a bouncer and have the douche thrown out.
