On the subject regarding the actual content of the listening party, I, too, would spend $250 to hear the new album before the majority of everyone else has if I am in a position to part with it. Better yet, I take that $250, find some way to turn it into $2,500, and get VIP for Life and have nothing to worry about.

The setlist is what it is, a collection of the songs that we have known and love and heard live numerous times. Btw, when the setlist was mentioned at the Download Festival Forum, people crapped all over it like chtimixeur pretty much did, so this is not just a one-person opinion. That stated, I do not think I have heard comments from people that were there that stated that it was a bad show. To them, it was a good set with a great crowd and that everyone was happy to see Alter Bridge play AB songs again after nearly a two year wait. Would they would like to see songs from The Last Hero or some deep cuts? Of course, what very attentive fan doesn't want that stuff?

Also, it is a warm-up show for when they got to play 35-40 min. sets in the biggest crowds they will see in a non-festival setting.

I'm a little bit worried about the overall theme of the album, and especially You Will Be Remembered because I'm a huge opponent of glorifying the military, especially the US army which has a rich history of not "defending" their country but rather killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people for stupid reasons, and it makes me kinda sad that my favourite band is a bunch of patriots, but hell, I love those guys anyway and their music is the best thing in the world.

You can support the troops and yet disagree with some of the military's actions at the same time. The two arent mutually exclusive.
Very true

I agree, but for future reference let's try to avoid bashing other people's countries okay everyone?

So kinda like your Military in the 40s.
Yep. That's why I'm not proud of our military, or of my country, because I know that its history makes it ridiculous to be proud of it.

It's no different with the US though. The country basically only exists because the first settlers killed all the natives, and there's no country in the world that was responsible for the deaths of nearly as much people as the US killed since WW2 (and that excludes Hiroshima and Nagasaki). What bugs me is that most Germans are sensitive enough to not have a bunch of national pride while most Americans don't seem to have those skills, and being proud of their military is part of that.

Back to topic, and concerning the ballad thing - I was kinda shocked when I first read that as well, but honestly, if there's one band that's capable of writing epic heavy songs that's Alter Bridge, which is why having no real ballad on an album probably is perfectly fine.
Why would you blame the US military for this? That's downright silly. You're pointing your fingers at the wrong group.
Yeah, of course the soldiers don't make those decisions, but they enforce them, right? That's not really better.

It's not only about the military of course, but being proud of one's country's military is a part of being proud of the country itself, I guess, and that's something I can't understand for countries like Germany or the United States.
Dude you just need to stop now. I've been active duty for almost 15 years now and unless you've been apart of the US Military, you haven't a single clue what you speak of. At this point you're just spouting off propaganda. If you don't like the fact that AB supports the troops then don't listen to their music... it's really that simple.

Yes, let's be cool and do this, and stay on topic please.

I can respect opinions about the setlist, everyone has their favorites. One of my favorites is one that people typically would like to see removed from the setlist, so to each their own. You guys have to know that they played Achilles at least three times during soundcheck. At one point someone yelled out "Still Remains" and Myles talked about how he couldn't even remember the last time he'd played that. It must take a lot of work to reacquaint oneself with the CoA or Blackbird. In fact, after Blackbird, Myles slapped Mark on the shoulder as if to say "Nailed it". The show was incredible for the people who were there, and nobody should feel sorry for us.

I like that someone thinks we hear only the "radio" songs in this setlist though. I have heard Alter Bridge on terrestrial radio precisely 3x in 12 years. lol

A big thanks to everyone who posted reviews (not sure how I missed Ashlee's the first time around - what a great review). Overall good stuff and now I'm absolutely stoked for the album release.

That's precisely 1 more time than I've heard them!

To be honest I was slightly disappointed in the setlist, especially with my experience of being at the Tremonti listening party and hearing multiple new songs premiered that night. It's probably more of a pipe dream than a possibility that they would ever pull rare songs out again, though this seemed like the opportunity to do that. Do I regret spending the money and going? Hell no, I got to be one of the first 500 people to hear the album, I got to meet the band, and I got an Alter Bridge concert. Just that the situation could've lent itself to playing rare or new songs live and really giving the fans in attendance something to remember.

They def. should have busted out Shed My Skin and gave you all a classic legendary moment.

I felt like FTR was a classic legendary moment. Don't know why, but for some reason that song just felt different this time around. Myles also nailed the long note at the end and didn't dodge any of it.

Anyone else from the LP going to post a track by track review?
I don't mind reading more of that stuff.

That was definitely a highlight of the night, and is a song I haven't seen them play before (my other two shows both got One Day Remains oddly enough). Pretty much the only "surprise" in the set to me, and maybe FTTS.

That must have been epic! :mkrules

Ever heard him sing the high note at the end of Broken Wings exactly the same way as it was in the record? I couldn't find a single one on YouTube.

Love FTTS live!!!

And I will not be doing a track by track. I didn't take any notes. I can't really write with a crayon that well. Especially when I didn't have a flat surface to write on (like the bar like some). I'm also not the best at writing descriptions like others here so I didn't bother. I just wanted to enjoy the songs and soak them in. Oh, and I didn't want to ruin my poster I was holding. Zaz kept buying me beers too, so I needed a free hand for that :lol

I will say, and I saw it asked, my pick for singles: My Champion or The Writing On The Wall

I thought them playing The Writing On The Wall was a good sign for it becoming the single

Same here.

My Champion had a little quick riff in it, that was played in other parts of the song too, that reminded me of Journey or Van Halen. I think it was mostly the guitar tone, but it was good. Had a classic feel to it.
