Well they did sell around the same as BMTH in the same venue (6.5k/8k) which are supposed to be the next new headliner band in UK

Another thing to note, as well, in addition to Nicklord stating that BMTH, a supposed big up-and-coming band with a big following in the UK, had similar attendance (in fact, AB outdraw them by 300 people, but make 30k less in ticket revenue).

Avenged Sevenfold had a much bigger downswing result in their recent show in Manchester than when they played in 2013 and their recent show had Disturbed (who hadn't played in the UK in years and had a big set time filled with their biggest hits songs) as support.

Here's the boxscore when they had FFDP as support in 2013.

Avenged Sevenfold, Five Finger Death Punch, Avatar Phones 4u Arena Manchester, U.K. Nov. 30, 2013 $644,958 13,843 / 14,960 1 / 0 $46.59 Live Nation

This is the result in their recent show.

Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, In Flames Manchester Arena Manchester, U.K. Jan. 16, 2017 $490,920 9,044 / 10,569 1 / 0 $54.81, $45.67 Live Nation

A $150k difference in revenue and 3.8k less people compared to AB making $130k less and 2.9k less people showing up. I don't even think the quality of the albums play here since both bands had critically acclaimed recent albums (AB with The Last Hero, A7X with The Stage) and in AB's case, their highest charted album in the UK.

It seems like an oversaturation of too many bands playing around the same period, not enough people willing to spend a lot of money to see all of these bands is the result of the relatively lowered attendance.

Random train of thought here.

Well, as some probably know, I was a bit sadden that the Billboard Boxscore limited itself to only 100 entries a week, but in recent months, they seemed to have lifted the limit and it's back to what it used to be again and now I can see how the smaller bands are doing nowadays. One entry I noticed this week was this one.

Make America Rock Again!: Scott Stapp, Sick Puppies, Drowning Pool, Trapt, Adelitas Way The Paramount Huntington, N.Y. Aug. 31, 2017 $24,693 980 / 1,573 1 / 0 $76, $46, $36, $21 Live Nation/in-house

I think we all know the bands on this list to some extend and we all would think, "Huh, one of these acts should have no problem selling this venue out in New York by themselves," but alas that is not the case. I feel for Stapp, Sick Puppies, and Adelitas Way. They seemed to be trying hard well enough nowadays and I really liked Sick Puppies' latest album, but it saddens me that they are having shows with attendance like this, although when they were opening for Skillet, the attendance was much better.

In comparison, here's what AB did in that same venue three years ago.

Alter Bridge, California Breed, Like a Storm The Paramount Huntington, N.Y. Oct. 12, 2014 $46,271 1,251 / 1,573 1 / 0 $37 in-house

It kinda tells me that old radio hits doesn't mean much. I think we all can admit that AB is probably the least mainstream band of the bunch (excluding AB's opening acts) and yet they had the much stronger attendance and revenue and I think they can do it again if they play the same venue this year.

It's nice to see Rock on the Range succeed every year. I know AB doesn't get too much love in the setlist front, getting around 30-40 minutes every time there, but they do get that much needed exposure in front of big crowds and hope to make new fans out of people in the process and it's pretty important to an extend for festivals like these to succeed in the US (I just personally don't want festivals in SoCal).

Rock on the Range: Metallica, Live, KoRn, The Offspring, Volbeat, Bush, Chevelle, Pierce The Veil, Gojira, Papa Roach, Seether, Coheed & Cambria, Alter Bridge, Primus, The Pretty Reckless, Biffy Clyro, Amon Amarth & others

Mapfre Stadium Columbus, Ohio May 19-21, 2017 $6,449,591 135,000 / 135,000 3 / 3 $379.50, $249.50, $169.50, $89.50 AEG Presents/Danny Wimmer Presents

Carolina Rebellion also did well. Good for them.

Carolina Rebellion: Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, Def Leppard, KoRn, Avenged Sevenfold, The Offspring, Mastodon, The Cult, Tesla, Chevelle, Alter Bridge, The Pretty Reckless, Pierce The Veil, Opeth, Volbeat, Papa Roach, Seether, Three Days Grace, Skillet & others

Rock City Campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway Concord, N.C. May 5-7, 2017 $5,849,464 100,874 / 100,874 3 / 3 $329, $219, $149, $79.50 AEG Presents/Danny Wimmer Presents

Well, got some more Boxscore updates this week just to pad the stats a bit.

Alter Bridge Harrah's VooDoo Lounge North Kansas City, Mo. Jan. 28, 2017 $49,417 1,398 / 1,398 1 / 1 $60, $35 C3 Presents/Caesars Entertainment

Alter Bridge Newport Music Hall Columbus, Ohio Aug. 8, 2017 $26,455 956 / 1,000 1 / 0 $30, $27.50 PromoWest Productions

I say, given the markets of these two shows, they are solid results in the attendance side of things. Btw, if the attendance of 999 for the Columbus show, I probably would have ribbed Andy a bit for not being able to go.

On another note, here's a festival result that included them.

FM99 Lunatic Luau: Avenged Sevenfold, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, The Pretty Reckless, Alter Bridge & others Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater at Virginia Beach Virginia Beach, Va. May 5, 2017 $219,280 12,046 / 20,055 1 / 0 $99.99, $59.99, $29.99, $9.99 Live Nation

I find it quite odd that with these bands on the line-up, the average ticket sale was only around $18. Also, 12k people in attendance seems good, but I would think the top three bands on the line-up could draw 12k easy and that the other two band on the line-up could fill up the rest. Festivals from the US, that has the active rock bands frequent the line-up has got a long way to go to get some respectability in the success end of things. At least, stuff like Rock on the Range and Carolina Rebellion are having healthy attendance which is a good start in the process.

One Drew Remains, you were there for this on the lawn. Was there actually around 11.5k people? Also, I'm surprised that Billboard kept Korn's name in this since they pulled out correct due to Jonathan Davis having vocal issues? So if that's the case, 11.5k people is not that bad for Breaking Benjamin and AB at the top two on the billing.

61 Pointfest: KoRn, Breaking Benjamin, Alter Bridge, Thrice, You Me At Six & others Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre Maryland Heights, Mo. May 13, 2017 $285,285 11,572 / 20,262 1 / 0 $30, $20 Live Nation

This is a related issue, tho a bit off point.

I used to think that music being free/basically free/almost free at this point wasnt affecting bands so much cuz i used to think

"Well, I wouldn't have bought band X's album anyways, so If i listen to it, its not like they lost something they could have gained. (by me purchasing an album)

And yet

I think yea, free music does hurt bands. That seems really oubvious tho. Cuz i think many ppl espiecally as it relates to money issues, would rather
get something for free rather than pay, especially if they dont have the best income.

i mean yea its obvious that free music hhrurts bands i just wanted to explain some of my thoughts around that issue.

Hey, their first trip to Argentina is really good. Good revenue, sold out the two shows. Their first show in Brazil co-headlining with the Cult. Hmmmm. I mean if this was a standalone headlining AB show, and they were playing in a 2,000 people capacity venue, it would be a good result, but co-headlining in a larger hall? Not so much.

AB's on the Boxscore this week. From their show in Birmingham, Alabama.

Alter Bridge, All That Remains Iron City Birmingham, Ala. Nov. 29, 2017 $38,351 1,252 / 1,300 1 / 0 $34, $30.50 in-house/Red Mountain Entertainment

I would not say that Alabama is really a huge market for rock, so in all honesty, this looks like a great turnout for them. They actually edged out Chevelle (who played in the same venue) in terms of revenue (but Chevelle sold their show out, whilst AB was 50 people short of a sold out show).

Chevelle, 10 Years Iron City Birmingham, Ala. Dec. 4, 2017 $37,700 1,300 / 1,300 1 / 1 $29 in-house/Red Mountain Entertainment

A couple of things to think about. I would think that an AB/Chevelle co-headliner tour can be a good pairing. I also would not mind seeing 10 Years be main support for an AB tour in the states. Wouldn't mind digging more into 10 Years. What I heard so far is great stuff.

I mean if you want to give me $500 to subscribe to Pollstar, I could do that.

Post by anguyen92 »

^^ Yeah, well, I get my information from Billboard and they only do 100-300 entries at a week covering all kinds of live acts. I don't think they will list AB's show in Denver.

I do think Billboard get their information from Pollstar and in order for us to access Pollstar's big data, you need to be a subscriber to them and that cost $500.00 a year.
