Which songs are you most excited to learn from the S&S DVD?

With Fret 12's newest release, Fortress "The Sound and the Story", just under two weeks away from shipping, I thought it would be a cool idea to gauge everybody's interest level and see what songs you all are most excited to learn. Will you start off with the easier ones such as "Lover" and "All Ends Well" and work your way up? Or are you going straight to the beasts of the album such as "Cry of Achilles", "Bleed it Dry", and "Fortress"? I allowed you all to select two options in the poll, but I encourage you guys to rank them in order and give a few reasons why you chose it for conversations sake. I think this will be a fun thread to discuss our opinions to pass the time until the DVD actually gets in our hands. Let the conversation begin!

I voted the last two options. If I buy the dvd, I'm just as happy to watch them teach me something I can't play, and all the non-teaching footage is gonna be awesome to see as well .

Could a novice player learn any of this with practice?

of course, it just depends on how much time and effort you wanna put in. I've been playing for only two years and can play most of AB's riffs plus 5-6 solos. If you practice, you'll get there

not bad, that's where I started along with Higher and What If. Tackle some of the easier AB songs like Rise Today and Broken Wings and go from there

Just take it one step at a time. I never imagined I'd get to where I am now, but I put in the work and I'm very happy where I'm at. Just keep at it and you'll be able to learn these eventually

Alright, time to answer my own question. My twin and I are gonna learn these together, me mostly taking Mark's parts and him taking Myles'. Eventually I'll learn Myles' solos too, but to start I'm only learning my half so we can get covers up quickly.

1. Cry of Achilles. Beyond excited to learn Mark's solo, probably my favorite on the album behind Bleed it Dry's. Also wanna learn the fingerpicked 2nd half of the verses and pre-chorus, along with the chorus so the guitar covers my awful voice belting the lyrics :headbang

2. Fortress. Excited to learn Mark's two solos as well as the monster instrumental section starting after the bridge. You know what I'm talking about

3. Calm the Fire. I gotta learn my 2nd favorite song on the album. Love the 80's classic rock feel to it

4. Bleed it Dry. Excited to learn the sledgehammer main/chorus riff, Myles' "expensive" jazz chords in the bridge and Mark's bluesy solo

5. Waters Rising. Mark's cool fingerpicked intro/verse riff, heavy pre-chorus riff, and that doomy, monster bridge.

6. Addicted to Pain. Both of the killer riffs (intro/verse/bridge), Mark's octave filled chorus chords, and the thrash solo

7. Peace is Broken. Ridiculous intro riff and the melodic solo

8. The Uninvited. Stoner fingerpicked intro, Tool-ish riff, and crazy breakdown

9. Cry a River. Sick intro riff and melodic solo

10. Farther Than the Sun
11. Lover
12. All Ends Well

I'm with you on that part of Fortress. I'm not great at soloing (code for awful) and certainly anything as fast as Mark can play, so I'll be thrilled just starting off with all the heavy rhythm riffs throughout the record, and then I'll dive down the rabbit hole of some of those solos afterward.

I'm gonna try all Eb tracks cuz I'm too lazy to set my guitar up for Drop Db. Myles's solo in CoA, Mark's solo in BID, main riff of Peace is Broken and solo, probably riff from CtF.

Hopefully you change your mind. There are a lot of good songs on this album in Db
