The Fortress Reviews Thread - press reviews & early listens
Since Timo brought it up, I thought it'd be a good time to make this thread. Anyone from the Germany/London listening parties can post their reviews here! Also, please link other reviews from places such as magazines/music websites as they start to come out.

It's Epic!
I'll give you my review a week after the rest of the world does.

Personally, I like to be wined and dined before I get fucked, but that's not the case with AB right now.gbruin wrote:It's Epic!

Apparently Roadrunner has requested people, who heard the album at the listening parties, not to give too much details about Fortress.
So be prepared to hear a lot of buzzword laden reviews.

Umm...then why have listening parties? Isn't the idea to generate buzz and get people talking about the music?julio wrote:Apparently Roadrunner has requested people, who heard the album at the listening parties, not to give too much details about Fortress.

I hope MusicRadar.com do a track by track review like they did with ABIII. It got me psyched!

Craving a track by track review, but it's still well over a month til the album comes out!

So basically, Roadrunner wants raving reviews without any spoilers and they want to see these words in every review :julio wrote:Apparently Roadrunner has requested people, who heard the album at the listening parties, not to give too much details about Fortress.

I'm sorry to say it's a stupid strategy.epic, amazing, beautiful, touching, heartbreaking, heavy, goosebumps, metal, incredible, best album ever
We were fooled twice with ABIII and All I Was (I still laugh when I remember the raving reviews after the listening session saying it was the best thing ever - and totally different from AB!!!!)
It won't work again.

It's supposed to be an unexpected album. If they give too much away the element of surprise will be gone. I'd love to hear some information too, but not too much into detail..
Eg: I want to know if Lover's a ballad or not, I don't want to know how Fortress (the song) is structured.

That's a fair point, don't want to be anticipating every interesting moment of the album. Brian mentioned there were "a few" 6 minute songs so I'd like to get an idea for that and see what songs people enjoy most, but I'll avoid it if it gets too in depth I think.Timotheus wrote:It's supposed to be an unexpected album. For all of the hope that it brings...

Well, to be honest.. I'll probably read everything we get, because I'm weak but I hope they won't spoil us again like they spoiled the bridge of Ghost Of Days Gone By.

Re: The Fortress Reviews Thread - All Album Reviews Go Here
We know by now to take everything with a pinch of salt. The true proof will be when we get to listen to it. Everything in between is just hype. If you listen to the album and think it's their best work ever, you were always going to think that regardless of the reviews. If you listen and think it's the worst they've ever done then again, it was always going to be the case. The reviews won't sway your gut feeling when you hear it.
I'll be indulging in everything Fortress the same as everyone else but I'll only truly know when I've heard it.

So still no decent reviews? Wow this is really not good for my natural calmness
Re: The Fortress Reviews Thread - All Album Reviews Go Here
metalingus.de should come through with a little more detail soon. Hopefully.

Yea, they said 'tomorrow', but in 2 minutes it won't be 'tomorrow' anymore (here and in Germany).

Thinking about it...I don't really know if I want to know whether Lover is a ballad or not. I like the element of surprise that I've built up in my mind. =PTimotheus wrote:It's supposed to be an unexpected album. If they give too much away the element of surprise will be gone. That said I'll read anything when it comes out. =D

Re: The Fortress Reviews Thread - All Album Reviews Go Here
There's no way I'd be able to resist any snippet of information of this album prior to release. I'm just too hyped because I know it's going to be the soundtrack of my life for the next couple of years.
