Good Question no not really that was the weird thing i was expecting some proggy synth style grand orchestra album and really it was a fast moving sledge hammer of an album soaring vocals from Myles driven by Brian and Flip with the Shred Master (Tremonti) ripping it up like he does if you like Addicted to Pain you will love Fortress as that gives you an idea of the style and addicted to pain is no where near the best track :headbang if you buy it on cd buy more than one as you will wear it out real soon . :mtrocks

Thanks for the reviews already posted, great info. But another question for anyone who heard the album:

Were you able to tell if Cry Of Achilles was specifically about Achilles, Troy, swords and battles etc. or if it was just a metaphorical title? I know it's impossible to get the meaning of all the lyrics, I'm basically just curious if you remember hearing them specifically say "Achilles" or anything like that in the song.

Hi RuRo, as I'm not english languaged by nature, I have a hard time hearing lyrics, especially on a first (and in this time, only) listen. Perhaps Selina can add to that, she was writing a lot of snippets of lyrics, i only wrote down a few, which I stated in my review on page 6 of this thread. I was mainly listening at the tunes/music/vibe instead of the actual lyrics.

I just kept hearing the line “something beautiful”. The whole thing had a very Mediterranean feel with the rhythms and introduction.

lol best collection of smileys I've seen yet :P

Meanwhile, I'm glad they didn't forget about you and you were able to go. Great stuff. I can't wait for the album, these guys prove time and again they are top level musical professionals. Kind people too, did you get a chance to talk to them about what aspects of the album they'd want to translate live?

thank you, the smilies kind of denote the process i went through :P

Hardly had time to talk to them.. they were only at the part for like 45 mins.. took 30 mins to take pics with everyone and do some small talk, and then did a 15 minute group question and answer thing...

All I want to know is if the album has any ukulele solos. Also, if the album doesn't contain any harp or accordion, I'm getting off this train. :lol

Ehh...nah. He takes the music a bit too seriously. I can't take that many deep themes.

what do you consider 'official'? a magazines website? a fansite? a random blog?

Yeah, reading someone's views on it doesn't really matter how "official" they are, to me at least. I genuinely can't stand READING about how music sounds. I need to hear it for myself so no number of written reviews will help me prepare myself for what Fortress sounds like

Basically any of those. I can't remember who all reviewed AB III before it came out but I hope one of those sites that did gets to do an in depth or track by track type review for the record. Your review helped a lot and is keeping me waiting for the first in depth review I guess you could say.

Pro reviewers obviously also have the advantage of having the CD to listen to over and over again.

Total Guitar Magazine - 5 out of 5....

This is Alter Bridge's metal album: harder, faster, heavier. The elements have always been there on Fortress's three predecessors, but never as explicitly expressed. Book-ended by Blackbird-scale epics, punishing, groovesome, syncopated riffs reign supreme elsewhere in The Uninvited, Peace is Broken, Cry A River and the bruising Bleed it Dry. The latter takes a surprising turn, leading to a spectacularly skyscraping solo from Mark Tremonti, but even during mellower diversions on All Ends Well and the dreamy Lover, the energy never dips.
