Wait till ya hear the CD quality and you'll give it a 10. :lol
That up rating was for production. Unless the CD has different song structures and somehow no vocal affects, and different bass and guitar tones, I doubt I will rate it higher.

So why did they decide to move Peace Is Broken to the 11 slot?

Also, its interesting, but Myles sounds a lot like Steven Tyler in a couple of places. Its not a bad thing.
Also, that end of measure descent on Cry Of Achilles funnily enough sounds a lot like Scott Stapp's Reach Out. Haha, not saying they ripped him off, but that part is very similar.

Have almost listened to the album 6 - 7 times now, still skipping a lot of songs, and Lover just keeps getting better. This song for me is better than everything on ABIII and Fortress combined. And am sure this song will be forgotten soon probably under the impression of a less complex non heavy AB song. But its the closes it gets for me to be able to recognise what this band was all about. And Addicted To Pain is turning out be better than most of the songs on the album as well..

When Myles mentioned that they have influences of Judas Priest on this album, I thought he was serious, I don't know what he was pointing at though cuz there are very vague hints of Judas Priest in ATP and that is all.

Fuck, I hope Myles releases that solo album of his soon, after this Fortress disappointment, I would need some good music from these guys to hold on to before the next AB effort. And something tells me Myles's solo just won't disappoint.

Glad you're at least obsessed with Lover like me Bonesy.

I'll join you in pining for Myles solo. Heck, been doing that since it was announced long long time ago.

Cry of Achilles is fantastic, and there isnt anything anyone can say to prove otherwise. Took me in so many different directions. Everything was unexpected. Slow fast slower fast breakdown solo I mean jeez. Great lyrics, fantastic fucking riff. The riff got me so pumped. Very complex song that deserves all the praise its getting. Reminded me of the same feeling I had when I first heard blackbird. Top 2 Alter Bridge song of all time no doubt, and better than ANYTHING i have heard in a long time.

I'm strongly considering that CoA may be my favorite AB song. I have a strong connection with Blackbird and its musically fantastic, but CoA is just so awesome!!!!

Anybody else not get the title track? Like I've listened through the album a few times now and the title track just really doesn't do anything for me. Maybe it was hyped up too much?

^ I was a little dissapointed with it when I heard it the first time, because I was indeed expecting too much from it, but it grew really fast on me. It's definitely in my top 5 of Fortress now.

Have you tried listening on its own a few times? It got kind of overwhelmed by the whole experience first time through, but now I'm in love with it (also has perhaps my album-high moment, see sig).

Hey everyone, this is my first post here! :) Been a fan of Alter Bridge since the spring of 2010!

As far as the title track of Fortress goes, I didn't notice much about it on my first spin through, but it had a much bigger impact on me with repeated listens. While Bleed It Dry might have the best single guitar solo, Fortress is chock full of brilliant solos! That song seems to be a bit of a grower, IMO.

Finally graduated from university, only to come home and find the link for the New Zealand stream of Fortress up.

What a fucking awesome day.

The title track didn't jump out as a favourite on first listen (although it all sounded very good) but after a couple more listens I'd rate it among the best. I understand now why a lot of reviews or thoughts from people at the listening party didn't have too much to say about it other than it seemed pretty good.

Fortress doesn't stand out like Blackbird does, but it stands out for a different reason. Where Blackbird is huge in the middle of the album, Fortress is huge at the end. The song really SOUNDS like the destruction of a fortress. It stands to remind the listener what they just went through. All of the songs, or most of them, on the album make some reference to a stronghold collapsing in one way or another. Then you get to Fortress and you're just like... wow... what an experience. It's a great song, great lyrics, definitely not anything like Blackbird but that's to be expected because Blackbird is Blackbird and Fortress is Fortress.

Fortress, I think, is the second best song on the album behind Lover.
