Your Favourite Music Parts.. (AB Songs)

There would be so many... has anybody ever noticed the startling similarity between part of the melody line of "Watch Over You" to "The Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin (on Houses of the Holy)?

Both songs are brilliant, but that was just something I picked up the other day. I heard the melody line in The Rain Song and I was like "Leaves are on the ground... fall has come" HOLY CRAP!!! :o

The Rain Song is one of Myles' favourite songs, so it's perfectly possible that he was inspired by it

Two things I love:

The vocal interplay between Mark and Myles in Open Your Eyes.

And best of all, Myles' transcendent, soulful solo followed by Marks crushing solo to follow it up. That just gets me everytime!

I absolutely love Mark's lead part over the 2nd and 3rd chorus of Couer D'Alene. It's a shame they don't play it that way live.

I'd love to add to my older post that I absolutely love the lyrics in Zero. Probably the lyrics from AB I relate to the most.

Mark's Guitar - Brand New Start solo not just because its the longest but its the most well rounded of all his styles
Myles' Guitar - Blackbird solo
Flip's Drumming - Rise Today or Wayward One, outro of White Knuckles just kicks ass, groove he plays in the bridge of The End Is Here took me years to figure out what he was doing, rimshot groove he plays in bridge of Blackbird just proves he's such a dynamic drummer, verses of Coming Home
Brian's Bass Line - Blackbird verses and bridge, Come To Life he just brings the real thunderous low end that just makes it thump
Best Guitar Solo - this has to be counted as one since they work together to make it all as epic as it is but both Blackbird solos...Wayward One is my other pick
Best Harmonies - Show Me A Sign
Best Riff - One By One intro
Best Chorus Melody - Words Darker Than Their Wings

Man, Myles' voice sounds sexy on the verses of Save Me.. Just listened to it again for the first time in ages..
I wish he could use his voice like that again..

Save Me kicks major arse. I think he sounds pretty awesome on the Damage Done verses too. Very passionate.

Myles' Vocals - Shed My Skin (Some of those notes that he hits are fantastic, and they sound so effortless!)
Mark's Vocals - Words Darker Than Their Wings (I don't need to say anything about that, really.)
Mark's Guitar - One Day Remains (That is one truly beastly riff!)
Myles' Guitar - Blackbird (I love the way he downtunes his guitar (at least live) to add a lower compliment to Mark's part during the chorus... and his contribution to the solo is awesome too.)
Flip's Drumming - Metalingus (It's his shining moment, outside of his steady drumming.)
Brian's Bass Line - The Damage Done (Chunky and goovy... sold!)
Best Guitar Solo - Blackbird (There's a reason it was voted as one of the greatest guitar solos ever written.)
Best Harmonies - Show Me A Sign (The harmony vocals during the "And the fire inside is gone" section gives me goosebumps. The way their vocals entwine is one of my favorite moments from any AB song.)
Best Riff - Ties That Bind (That intro riff just signals so much awesomeness to follow!) / Show Me A Sign (That main riff just completely owns my soul!)
Best Chorus Melody - Still Remains (Once again, the way Myles' and Mark's vocals play off each other is just so sweet and amazing to listen to especially sang above such a fun riff.)

One of the musical moments that never fails to punch me in the gut is the opening riff to Down To My Last. One show in Minneapolis, they experimented with opening the show with that one, and it KILLED. I can understand why Myles wouldn't want to come out swinging with that one every night though.
