too MF4 for me, i can appreciate a nice slower song and when i picks up the song soars beyond belief, but i dont like it more than the other 11, i think they have more to offer.youknowverywell wrote:How the heck do you put Lover at the bottom? hahaha
It baffles me how some people are putting Waters Rising so low down?! are you tone deaf?
Re: Favorite song on Fortress
i'm actually pretty surprised Bleed it Dry was raved about so damn much. Besides the solo, I thought it was pretty weak.

^ Agreed the chorus definitely left me hanging
Who knew Oprah likes Alter Bridge?
Re: Favorite song on Fortress
It's funny how opinions vary... as the chorus is one of my favourites on the album. I don't know, it's got attitude, you know? I can imagine Myles belting it out quite passionately. But then he belts everything out passionatelyOprahWinfrey wrote:^ Agreed the chorus definitely left me hanging
Re: Favorite song on Fortress
The solo is great, and I thought the possibilities with that riff for the chorus were so great. Then when it got there it sounded rushed and ended really abruptly...
Re: Favorite song on Fortress
This is very difficult because about half the album is made up of songs of the level that are usually the best songs on albums. But since I can change my vote I actually voted Fortress.
I understand why it hasn't got the attention that Blackbird did and it didn't absolutely stand out as the clear favourite on first listen, but it is exactly the type of thing I've wanted to hear from them since before AB III. And after a few listens, I think this song will get even more appreciation in time - it really is the hardest to digest of the album and I can recognise the chorus as a real grower. So since no other song stands head and shoulders above the rest, I voted Fortress. It's on a level with a few others right now, maybe even slightly below after my first listen, but I think it has the potential to grow on me and rise further than the others.
Cry Of Achilles, Bleed It Dry, Calm The Fire, Waters Rising... Lover and All Ends Well aren't my usual type of favourites so I can't see them standing up to the epics in time, but I think they are great for the type of songs they are. Any of those songs could end up a favourite, or even a riff-and-rock type song if one of them really sticks with me. And its not because the album is lacking a really good song, it's because it's full of them.

Still can't decide after three or four full listens, the track I keep repeating right now is Fortress. But I've barely slept in three days. Need to listen to it fully aware of what's happening and a few more times before I pick, provisionally gonna say Fortress of CoA, few more just shy of those, but not going into any more detail until I myself know my views for sure, besides the album is amazing!
I have to find a place where I belong, I do not like what I have become. No more compromise I will be gone, free to fly farther than the sun.
Re: Favorite song on Fortress
I especially like how it's essentially the complete opposite to Ghost of Days Gone By - mental main section then the bridge completely flips everything with a beautiful change of pace. I'm with you on the chorus too, it's not just a soaring chord-fest and has an interesting feel. Growing on me a lot that song, getting close to the big 4.Dan Dando wrote:It's funny how opinions vary... as the chorus is one of my favourites on the album. Re: Favorite song on Fortress
The chorus of Bleed It Dry is one of my favourite choruses on this record. I love how the verses are in 6 and how they change signatures in the chorus. Gives it such a punchy feel.

Bar getting it hand delivered to me by Zooey Deschanel in a particularly open-minded mood, I don't think they could've.Felipesh wrote:I'm sure that they could have done something better with Fortress

She'll probably ask you if you've purchased her music, though... So yeah I'm going with what's her name from Fast and Furious.Ubik wrote:Slightly ashamed to admit that that's exactly how it would've gone at 3pm today.Dan Dando wrote:Zooey: Hello there. I have your Alter Bridge album.

And Butters, you're not alone there, man. Most likely, I would've just grabbed it, also.
