Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
I'm going to ruin everyone's listening experience of Fable - at 4:28 there is a beep as Myles says future.

Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
I saw somebody bring that up in the Alter Bridge subreddit. I listened to that section over and over again trying to hear the beep, and I can't hear it.

bought the new album yesterday. Pretty good. Let's see how it ages.
Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
Honestly, Fable is good. But it doesn't hold a candle (for me at least) to Fortress. Pawns & Kings is a great album. Many standouts tracks. 2 fillers for me. Holiday and Season of Promise.

Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
Here's my short review.
It's easily their best album since Fortress.
I love that it's only 10 songs long, and aside from Stay, I don't skip anything.
This is War is a great opener, and Fable of the Silent Song grew on me after a couple of weeks, and I now cant' stop listening to it.
Elvis did a fine job. I'll never love what he does, but aside from a couple loud spots (e.g. This is War), it's sounding good enough for me, and I can enjoy the songs wiuthout thinking about sound issues. I'll even go further and say it's the best sounding Alter Bridge produced by Elvis.
That being said, is it a great album? Nope.
Is it in the same league as One Day Remains, Blackbird and Fortress? Nope.
It's lacking a couple of other big songs, but it's good enough for a band that is gonna turn 20 in a couple of years, and very few bands can say their 7th album is that good.
Congtraulations to them!

For me, it's the singles minus Sin After Sin, plus Dead Among The Living and Stay.

Well, I knew it would happen but didn't think it would be so soon. I'm taking a break from P&K as I've grown tired of it. I listened to the whole album again on vinyl yesterday and can safely say now that it still lands on the same level as ABIII. Some solid songs - I think Last Man Standing is the best on the whole album - but also some total duds - Sin After Sin, Stay, and Holiday. I grew tired of Walk The Sky after about three weeks so this is not new. What does it mean that I can still go back and want to listen to ODR, Blackbird, and Fortress after all these years? Why do they have so much staying power?

It's fascinating to me how different tastes in music can be, Last Man Standing it's a favorite to a lot of people but to me it's my least favorite
Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
I think nostalgia and memories play a big part of it. I don’t listen to albums straight through as much as I used to during high school and college years. Music people listen to in earlier years of their lives seems to have a staying power throughout.Schulzy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 10:21 am Well, I knew it would happen but didn't think it would be so soon. I also think that my attention span has shortened as I've gotten older. Too many other things to distract me. I'm sure I will pick up P&K again but don't want to get totally sick of it before seeing AB live in February. Three months!
