Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
Pretty wicked new tune!
The choir chants, the chugs, the lyrics, that solo!
I've had the same little qualms with Myles' voice for the past 8 or so years as most people have. It does sound thin and nasally and "Slashy" in spots in most if not every AB song nowadays.
I do however love the vocal phrasing in the verses, how Myles tacks on that higher note at the end of each line. I'm sure the chorus will get lodged into my head over the course of the day.
I can't say enough about the solo!
The first proper "oh shit!" Mark guitar moment from the record for me. I can only imagine what sort of epic dueling solo in Fable Of The Silent Son may entail!

Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
I agree! Myles vocal change over the years has been a real love/hate relationship with me. He absolutely soars, stays in key and has that special tone that sends the goosey bumps up my arms. At the same time, he can get stuck in that register and it can start to be a bit harsh and exhausting to listen to. Sometimes it just needs a little more balance, but I absolutely love and appreciate his style. It’s immediately recognizable. Say what you want about his work with Slash, but he’s become a smarter vocalist because of it and has really mastered his technique. It’s not the kind of voice you hear from many American rock bands. So many dime-a-dozen super macho “HELL YEEAAUGHH” vocalists out there but AB has that classic sound where his voice just sears through the mix and makes it unique. It’s a polarizing aspect of the band, but it’s why I love them. Anyways, I’m rambling. 10 days left, ya’ll!

Listened to Pawns & Kings again for the first time in a while and it remains an absolute banger.

Yes. It's one of my favorite songs of all time now.

I also try and avoid it so I don’t over listen, but P&K definitely bangs. Only one I listen regularly is Silver Tongue, because I like to jam along with it.

This Is War feels so much like a song left over from a Tremonti album. Its not a bad song, probably the one I like the most (especially the chorus) but it doesnt feel like an AB song.
Edit: Also gotta say the solo smokes.

I think I Myles said in an interview that he was the one who brought that song to the band.. the original demo or parts of it at least.
Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
Plot twist: Myles writes all Tremonti songs and Mark writes all of Myles’ solo stuff.

That's a mind-blowing thing to grasp if Mark was the one that wrote a song like Worried Mind and Myles wrote a song like Would You Kill.
My Trip to Orlando and Raleigh to see AB Posts

Good song. I'd rank it second behind pawns and kings as far as the pre release singles go

MSBD = Musicians Switching Bodies Disease
Plot twist: Myles and Mark switched bodies during the writing of this album, so everybody thinks Myles is writing the heavy stuff and Mark is writing the soft stuff, when it's really the other way around.
I mean, switching bodies isn't impossible. I switched bodies with my friend Tate, and I even have proof of it. https://www.facebook.com/maxzubic/video ... 538912407/

i've been critical of elvis in the past but goddamn are these posts getting old
Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
It has though. Much less layering this album, which helps the mix.
Re: Pawns & Kings (Alter Bridge - VII)
I was going to say. The chord choices, rhythms and the structure scream Myles rather than Mark for this one. Mark obviously does heavy just as well but it has a slightly different quality to it.DarkKnight12 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 5:56 pmI think I Myles said in an interview that he was the one who brought that song to the band.. the original demo or parts of it at least.

I think the rhythym sounds like Mark. Its not just that its heavy. I know Myles can write heavy. Didnt pay attention to the chords though.I was going to say.
