As for what fans can expect from the fifth Alter Bridge album, Tremonti says he hopes for at least a slight change in direction from Fortress.
He adds: "It could go in any direction. I've got a ton of ideas in all different styles. Last time it was just one heavy idea after another and hopefully this time we can branch out and bring something new to the table."

Yup, given how successful Lover and Calm the Fire turned out, really looking forward to more diversity. He said they'll be recording from Jan-March, does that mean they have writing sessions coming up soon? Need me some hype.

I hope Mark drops his usual formula for once and makes a 7 minute+ song WITHOUT a chorus. It's blasphemy I know, but I still want to see what Mark can do when he releases himself from his songwriting boundaries for once. He always goes crazy in the bridge when he can do what he want, so why not go crazy for a whole song? I think we'll see him go like

All of these wishes can be fulfilled with one word. Instrumental.
I think that's going to be the final piece of the puzzle that can really set themselves apart outside of Creed, imo. I know that the general people that has heard of AB, in any way, has finally accepted them as their own, but there are few people that still thinks they are just Creed with another singer. An instrumental could be the key to end that connotation once and for all.

I honestly loved the songs on Fortress with the trade off solos. I hope thats one thing they keep.
