Here's a latest extension of that intent.
"It takes three or four months to set up an album, so after we've recorded the Alter Bridge record me and Myles will go off and tour for four months doing Tremonti and Slash, then come back for a fall Alter Bridge fiesta."

As for what fans can expect from the fifth Alter Bridge album, Tremonti says he hopes for at least a slight change in direction from Fortress.

He adds: "It could go in any direction. I've got a ton of ideas in all different styles. Last time it was just one heavy idea after another and hopefully this time we can branch out and bring something new to the table."

Yup, given how successful Lover and Calm the Fire turned out, really looking forward to more diversity. He said they'll be recording from Jan-March, does that mean they have writing sessions coming up soon? Need me some hype.
For all of the hope that it brings...

It also helps that Mark now has another outlet for his heavy stuff, which he didn't really have at the time of the Fortress revordings...

I hope Mark drops his usual formula for once and makes a 7 minute+ song WITHOUT a chorus. It's blasphemy I know, but I still want to see what Mark can do when he releases himself from his songwriting boundaries for once. He always goes crazy in the bridge when he can do what he want, so why not go crazy for a whole song? I think we'll see him go like :eek if he dares to COMPLETELY drop his formula for once. Like:

I like that idea. I can't wait for news from the song writing sessions. I don't care what direction they go, just give me some damn AB!

I'd love to hear a song based on Brian's meaty bass riff, like they have never done. That would give BMarsh finally some kind of recognition and put the bass up front.

All of these wishes can be fulfilled with one word. Instrumental.

I think that's going to be the final piece of the puzzle that can really set themselves apart outside of Creed, imo. I know that the general people that has heard of AB, in any way, has finally accepted them as their own, but there are few people that still thinks they are just Creed with another singer. An instrumental could be the key to end that connotation once and for all.

This. I'm a fan of guys just going all out without any words backing them up. Just play & roll with it.

I honestly loved the songs on Fortress with the trade off solos. I hope thats one thing they keep.

An extended, very broad instrumental that may run into prog area sounds like an awesome idea!

The saddest thing about getting a new album means that the chances of hearing songs like Bleed it Dry, Lover and Calm the Fire live are slim to none.
