Absolutely my biggest gripe about the comeback tour. Stuff like Are You Ready was almost unrecognizable to me when they come in playing it in a flat key.JaredWard wrote:Now that's a crowd! If only American crowds were like that.
PS: Scott sounds great in that acoustic vid despite the horrible playing why?? because it's in the correct key. The guys need to raise up a few of the tunes if you ask me. He may not have the vocal strength to pull off some of the tougher tunes but easier songs like WAWO, One, & My Sacrifice he could nail no problem in Drop D/Standard.
Those do look like Marshall's I wonder if something happened to the mesa's or if he's switching his rig. Still has the fenders so it could be anything.mitch103 wrote:wow thats crazy! also is mark using marshall cabinets?
I don't think he would struggle on the easier songs... I understand he can't sing like he used to. WAWO sounds great in the original key though. Here is another example:abw1987 wrote:I don't understand the suggestions that Scott will sound better if the songs are tuned back up. Scott obviously struggles with his upper register, and downtuning the songs helps mitigate that.
That said, I take no issue with the complaints about the downtuned songs sounding less like the album versions.
Thats the problem.... People here don't understand half the things they want to comment on. Don't get me wrong, but let me explain to you why Stapp will sound absolutely fine in the original key. Stapp had been singing all these songs on a particular key his entire life. His voice has been conditioned that way. The vocal chords are like any other muscle and muscles have memory. Its a disbelief that if a vocalist struggles on a higher scale, downtuning the instruments will always help, technically it might just help but thats not a given. Infact, downtuning the instruments and lowering the scale can make it more difficult for a vocalist to sing because the placement of the voice/breathing might change. Ive noticed Stapp singing a few songs here and there on the original key, and am sure he can easily pull it off. People around him don't realise that or they just dont care.Stapp had vocal issues in 2009 and that could have been the reason to downtune the instruments as it sure did kinda help Stapp to atleast sing(well not exactly;)) and reach a few notes, but that definitely wasn't the solution to the problem. Personally, I have tried to sing a few songs on lower tunings and trust me, its much difficult to sing most of them on lower tunings.Vocals/Singing/Voice is not a very easy concept as people have come to believe.. There is a lot more involved in it than most people can ever understand.abw1987 wrote:I don't understand the suggestions that Scott will sound better if the songs are tuned back up.
