Well my phone picks the word for me pretty much so deal with it

Crikey. I'm honestly struggling to do this! I really seem to be enjoying this album at the moment, absorbing a different song each day.. it seems.
For example, I thought Brains was okay at first listen - I didn't expect to absolutely adore it three days later Thankfully the record seems to be exciting me more and more as I listen

"I heard someone say recently, 'No shit, no roses.' I thought that was interesting because, you know, you've got to fertilize them in something. I think we're all being fertilized with our own shit and we can choose to grow into fucking amazing people from it." - Glen Hansard (The Frames/The Swell Season)
Re: Rank the songs from favorite to least favorite.
for me there isn't a clear ranking for the songs. each has pluses and minus when compared against the others. So i'll do a "ranking" similar to what chtimixeur did.
Awesome/standouts:
* All I was
* Decay
* New Way Out
* So You're Afraid
* Brains
* Proof
* Doesn't Matter
Solid songs, but something about them just irks me (and sometimes i don't know what that thing is):
* The Things I've Seen
* Leave it Alone
* Wish You Well
* Giving Up
* You Waste Your Time
For that second section, i should clarify some things. a lot of people here seem to love "The Things I've seen". I don't mind it, it's a good song given the idea behind it (which Mark mentions here: http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/feat ... olo-album/ )( and yes, i'm aware the article is linked in a separate thread already)) but something about the structure of the chorus just irks me. I think it's my inner English major being a bit critical of the lyrics and how they're structured.
Edit: Also, one more point on "The Things I've Seen." I'm probably in the minority, but i prefer the lyrics at the end to those in the 2nd half of the chorus. Something about the lines "Sore again is this old wound, and i have seen through it all" hooks me more than "and dont think that you know why, when you know everything, when you see things for what they were." Something about that line just irks me, and I can't put my finger on it. I think it may be a combination of the structure and the pairing of the phrases.
"Leave it alone" and "Wish you Well" are well done songs, but something about them just doesn't grab me like the tracks in the top section do. It's the same thing with "Giving up" and "You Waste Your Time", and the latter also suffers a smidge from some peculiar lyrics.
As a whole though, i really dig the album.

Love how there are differing opinions. Quite staggering how the human mind controls taste in music and differing things like music!
Love this.

Re: Rank the songs from favorite to least favorite.
I always wanted to get into someone else's mind and check how he/she is receiving certain pieces of music. In case of someone with a completely different taste I'd love to understand how she/he absorbs music, to know what is deciding that this, not that genre/melody strikes that special chord inside. That would be something.Jim wrote:Love how there are differing opinions. Quite staggering how the human mind controls taste in music and differing things like music!

(The weird thoughts... blame it on my education!).
FYI I'm a woman.

Kinda like wanting to look through someone elses eyes and see if they see things the same as you.. colours, shapes etc
Re: Rank the songs from favorite to least favorite.
I've always wondered about the colour thing too.
