Recycled Riff??
I know Mark said the songs on the solo record are from ideas that he pitched to his other bands and they didn't make the cut... sooo I kinda picked up on a little something... anyone notice the main riff on the song "All I Was" is uncannily similar to the opening riff in "One by One"?? Maybe "All I Was" is what "One by One" was originally supposed to be?? Perhaps haha...
Re: Recycled Riff??
Yeah it is really close lol. Listen closely to the little riff he plays in All I Was when the vocals start as well. I think it sounds a lot like Fallout.

The difference here is that the riff from All I Was kicks wayyy more butt, haha. I love One By One, don't get me wrong, but the riff is All I Was just shakes me to the core.
Re: Recycled Riff??
Yeah Andy I noticed the Fallout similarity, I haven't noticed the One By One thing though, I'll listen out for it.

Its not that close ...coming from a guitar player
Re: Recycled Riff??
It sounds like it because
A. its got the same open note sequence
B. its played in exactly the same place as One By One, in im guessing, the same tuning too!
I reckon it was what he might've thrown into the pot and Myles thought "hmm... nah"

Re: Recycled Riff??
Only noticed the similarity of the twangy verse guitar to Fallout (but that doesn't sound like it's recycled, just something in a similar style). Never noticed it being similar to One By One - it does sound quite a bit like it and starts off very similar, the rhythm (or perhaps the drums behind it) in All I Was make it more distinctive so I never thought of it as being too similar. Maybe it was suggested for One By One, who knows? Chnces are lots of these riffs were ones Mark has had and played but were never worked into full songs or picked up on by Myles, rather than each one was pitched and rejected for certain songs.

Some of the notes in the verse aren't just similar to Fallout, they're identical.

Re: Recycled Riff??
I immediately heard One by one in the clean guitar riff. Sounds good though.

He bends the notes instead in All I was.
It's just this scale...In D minor I think.
e-8-6-5---------------------------------------
b-------8-6-5--------------------------------
g--------------7-5---------------------------
d-------------------8-7-5-----------------------
a-------------------------8-7-5-------------------
e--------------------------------8-6-5--------

Also check out the outo of Brains with the ''oo-o-ooh'' going on, then listen to Full Circle (the track) and on the chorus before the solo you allmost have the same progression(if not the same) with Mark doing allmost the same on the backing vocals
