Proof Solo Difference

It's a shame the longer one wasn't on the album but I still dig!

I heard the longer version on youtube and the AOL Stream (it's posted in another thread).

For people who were wondering exactly what the difference is, on the CD version at 3:23 (by my timestamp) it skips to the last 3 seconds of the solo, where as on the AOL version, if that's what it is, there is another 10 seconds before it goes into that last 3 seconds. It's probably just because I've heard how it originally sounded, but now to me the transition in the CD version sounds a bit abrupt, and the solo feels a bit short.

The solo is cut, because Mark himself said this was his least favorite solo, and he wanted to redo it, but it was already too late as the album was already in the finishing stages. I can't remember which interview he said this in though.

I thought the fade actually fit kind of well, and I'm not normally a fan of that.

It was the only fade used in the whole album, it was pointless and didnt suit a metal album, man.. Really dont like it! And its such a good song!

I've heard plenty of fade outs in metal, I don't think they suit it any less. If anything they're more common in metal. It's good that it's the only one on the album, as I wouldn't want it to be overused. But I don't have any problem with it on Proof, it seems to fit quite well.

I think it also shakes up the song endings a bit. If every ending was just the last chord hit with some guitar feedback it would get kind of stale.

There are literally ten's of ways to effectively end a song, and on an album with so much PUNCH... a fade out just seems like "WHAT ARE YOU DOINGGGG????? YOU WERE ON SUCH A ROLL!"

I'm sure i'll get used to it. If not, there's always the skip button

Regarding fade outs, it seems like Metallica faded out a bunch of their songs...I've heard it done in metal.
