New Acoustic perfomance of Take You With Me. Amazing version. The guitars sound really brilliant, and Mark's voice is point as well.

What's the point of making a concept album if it's not chronological? I mean, there are some crazy exceptions (like Beyond Twilight's For the Love of Art and the Making) but it sounds weird in alternative metal context. Also, is it just me or Take You With Me with its pop-punkish vibe sounds completely out of place at the end of the album between serious minor songs like As The Silence Becomes Me and Desolation?

Yep. On the other hand it would feel pretty repetetive if you would place Desolation right after As The Silence Becomes Me. Maybe a heavier and darker song would have fitted better between these two.

Mark said that he sequenced the album like he would any other album, meaning you can listen to any song on the album without the context of the story and still enjoy it. He has also stated that he was never really into concept albums before, and the ones he did like, he liked for the songs rather than the story it tells. It's a different approach to a concept album, for sure. It does sound sort of out of place, but Mark also said it's one of the songs that contributes least to the overall story. Perhaps he just wanted it on the album and wasn't really sure where to place it, or perhaps he wanted to break up the two slower minor songs with something more upbeat in between.

I imagine the book will make the chronological tracklisting a lot clearer.

TurningStones wrote:In an interview with Loudwire, Mark Tremonti said the following about A Dying Machine's tracklist "On the album, I didn't want to tell the story from start to finish, because if you did that, the sequence would be weird dynamically." After listening to the album multiple times, I was wondering if anybody on this forum has figured out where the songs would fit in chronogical order. I tried taking a stab at it, but ultimately got nowhere.
This is as far of an outline as I can figure out...
As The Silence Becomes Me - was shown in a picture to be 'chapter 1' of the novel
The Day When Legions Burned - Vessels are recalled, which puts into motion the main plot
Bringer of War - Ares wants to start an uprising against humanity so Vessel-kind doesn't get destroyed
Throw Them To The Lions - Ares trying to convince people to follow his rebellion
Make It Hurt - Continuation of Lions plot
From The Sky - The war between human and Vessel-kind is happening
A Dying Machine - A conversation between Stella and Brennan, and since Brennan would have to be alive for this to happen I figure it's before The First The Last....
The First The Last - Stella reflecting on killing Brennan
Traipse - Stella being abandoned on an Island and about her voyage back home, presumably after she murdered Brennan
Found - Outro song so no real plot relevance but I keep it at the end anyways :lol

Unsure of where they fit into the plot
Desolation - The degenerative skin issue for the ATSBM character is starting to prove fatal and they’re coming to terms with their eventual demise
Trust - Based on the description of the song I'd assume it fits somewhere between Make It Hurt and A Dying Machine (Conversation between Stella and Ares where Ares is trying to convince Stella to follow him. Ares happens to be obsessed with Stella.)
A Lot Like Sin - Based on the description of the song I'd again assume it fits somewhere between Throw Them The Lions and From The Sky (Trying to convince someone to drop their “holier than thou front” and embrace their darker side, and convincing that person to follow them.)
Take You With Me - I'm not sure how or if this song really fits into the novel, but given the message the song is trying to convey, I could see it being Ares trying to convince Stella to join him some more....So between Make It Hurt and A Dying Machine, too? :headscratch

Would anyone be sweet enough to share Now or Never with a non-Wal-Mart-er?

How is the song? Have not seen any reviews on it, thought that was odd.

A Dying Machine charted on #18 in Germany. By far the best result for Tremonti.

This is really cool. Didn't think about Trust like that haha. I think we'll have to wait till the book to really know.

So.... when is the book coming? :)

Now or Never is pretty generic. A lot of potential in the beginning with the melody but ultimately is just a filler. That's just me though.

You're not missing much, obviously not bad but makes sense as a B-Side - kinda generic. Desolation didn't translate to an acoustic version as well as I'd hoped either - didn't help that they kept the vocal layering and fake strings in the mix.

What lane does it fall in? fast tempo, mid tempo, slow? Heavy, ballady? If I had to guess it's slow to mid those tend to be the b sides.

Yea I'd call it slow tempo verse/mid tempo chorus.
