Re: Myles Kennedy - "Year of the Tiger"
hey this is some damn good stuff.
Aside from Love Can Only Heal, the pre release singles were underwhelming but a lot of what Im hearing from the rest of the album is very good stuff. I love the vibe this album has. Some very profound and deep lyrics here, which is to be expected, much different from a lot of stuff we hear on the rock stuff Myles does. What I love most is hearing a different side of Myles' musically, lots of cool little riffs here and there, especially that Nothing But A Name verse riff.
Loving Turning Stones right now, some relaxing vibes there. I haven't listened enough to really dissect it but I dig this quite a bit.
Seems like a great addition to Myles' discography!
Love Can Only Heal is still one of the best songs I've ever heard from Myles, and listening to it in the context of the rest of the album only solidifies that fact.
Highlights:
Ghost of Shangri La
Turning Stones
Nothing But A Name
Love Can Only Heal
Songbird

I need to listen to this album when I'm much more conscious, but yes, this is a great album. Vastly different than anything what we have ever heard from Myles, and he brought some cool sounds with the various instruments he used for this album.
I think this is a great accomplishment for Myles to achieve for a solo album. Favorites so far. The Great Beyond, Ghost of Shangri La, Haunted By Design, Love Can Only Heal, and One Fine Day.

i remember i used to be in these forums back in the day. I used to talk about the possibility of this solo album happening with the actives all the time. Finally it is here. The Great Beyond hit me like a lightning storm. So far so epic.

The more I hear The Great Beyond, the more I do understand when people stated that when they heard it, it sounded like something that could be a theme song for an epic movie. Suddenly, comparing that to say Chris Cornell's You Know My Name is not as far-fetched as I thought.

My personal favorites so far:
1. Blind Faith
2. Nothing But a Name
3. Love Can Only Heal
4. Mother
Though, it looks like One Fine Day might surpass all of them. Even though I'm waiting for the lyric booklet to arrive today for some of the lyrics in the middle section, there's something about the melody of the song that just absolutely crushed me inside. Holy hell that was good. YMMV.

Re: Myles Kennedy - "Year of the Tiger"
I'd say my top five on current listening, in no order - The Great Beyond, Turning Stones, Mother, Love Can Only Heal and Songbird. I think it's an easy album to listen to straight through though, no weak tracks to my ears.
For all of the hope that it brings...

Fantastic album. Just finished it for the second time. My favorites so far are Turning Stones, Ghost of Shangri-la and One Fine Day. Maybe Nothing But a Name as well. And The Great Beyond. And Songbird.
I'll write a review during my third listen. I'm so unbelievably happy with this album.

After listening once through the album here is my rating: dunno/10
I expected that this album will be a grower so I'm not surprised that I'm not blown away by the amazingness yet.

Re: Myles Kennedy - "Year of the Tiger"
First thoughts after 1 spin.
I like the fact that he's doing something radically different, but I'm not sure the material is up there with the MF4 and AB stuff. Only time will tell.
So far, my favourites are Ghost of Shangri La, Turning Stones and Haunted by Design, and stylistically, the one song I really disliked is The Great Beyond.
One thing that particularly impressed me was the drumming. Zia Uddin's definitely still got it!
I also have to admit Elvis upped his game. Aside from the annoying echo on the Love can only heal vocals, I'm not hearing any of the obvious flaws of his production style (but hey, remember I only listened to it once).

I realise now you probably wanted someone with the actual booklet to do it, but too bad! Only word I'm not sure on is "radiant", but can't see what else it could be.hackingislife wrote:yuspls
One fine day, this too shall fade
You never know, never know, never know
This long romance, this better end
Let it go, let it go, let it go
Keep moving on, move on
The road is winding as the day is long
Somewhere beyond, a new dawn
Beckons us to find a place where we belong
Now it’s so hard to wait
For changes to come
They’re only a heartbeat away
The ache inside, the restless night
So alone, so alone, so alone
And hope’s intent to love again
Only grows, only grows, only grows
So here we are, too far
In the deep again with drowning hearts
Where do we start, it’s so hard
Through our tragedies we find out who we are
Now it’s so hard to wait
For changes to come
They’re only a heartbeat away
The long suffering is never gone
The tragedies we face we can’t outrun
But time heals the ache
Though all we had is gone
The promise still remains of what’s to come
And though it’s so hard to wait
For changes to come
They’re only a heartbeat away
And the hope still remains
That a radiant love
Is only a heartbeat away
One fine day, this too shall fade
You never know, never know, never know
One fine day, this too shall fade
You never know, never know, never know
For all of the hope that it brings...

Re: Myles Kennedy - "Year of the Tiger"
I thought the album was okay. Albums these days aren't anything like they used to be, so I've taken that into effect. I counted 4.5 songs that I'll go back to;
Haunted by Design
Year of the Tiger
Love Can Only Heal
The Great Beyond
There's half a song in there, I can't remember where. I'll listen to it again. I've noticed the slower songs tend to be way more dark and melodic and the more upbeat songs tend to play around major chords, progressions in which I can see coming from a mile away. I like to be surprised and I live and die by great melodies, particularly in minor keys. I'm biased with a lot of things, but not with music - no matter how much hype or how much respect I have for an artist. If it's forgettable, I'll say it and 2/3rds of this album is forgettable. With that being said, it's incredibly hard for me to find an album with at least 3 songs I'll come back to in the year of our Lord 2018. I'd equate this to "Dust". I think that record had 3 or 4 songs I come back to. It's tough having high standards - I wish I didn't. But, congrats to the people on here with tears of joy for album!

The singles released are the worst songs on the album. Puggles ma heed why he released the ones he did

Re: Myles Kennedy - "Year of the Tiger"
Absolutely beautiful album, so many songs gave me goosebumps. Myles anger really hits hard in some songs but it’s really an album about love and life. Such a dark subject matter becomes a source of light and healing and it’s gorgeous.
I like all the songs but my standouts are:
Blind Faith
Turning Stones
Haunted By Design
Mother
Nothing But A Name
Love Can Only Heal
Songbird.
Bowled over.

A lot of good stuff on this album. My favorites after one listen through:
1. Love Can Only Heal
2. The Great Beyond
3. Ghost of Shangri La
4. One Fine Day
Had a lot of expectations for a solo album from MK, and overall I'm really pleased with this one. Has seem weaker moments but nothing I'll nitpick too much. It's a good album.
