For the first chord he stretches his fingers as for the Drop C# version. We would have to spread them uncomfortably wide to execute that in standard tuning. I could be wrong of course.
When he gets to the pre and chorus, it looks like he's playing straight power chords in standard shapes, not one finger drop tuning.

Tore My Heart Out is a song that was on the setlist for the listening party for Cauterize/Dust back in January, but it ended up not being played because of tuning issues. Tore My Heart Out is supposed to be on Dust.

Hey guys, I just updated the list to include the new songs!

Also, Mark Tremonti says on Twitter that Betray Me is in Drop B, when I know for a fact that it is damn near impossible to play it in Drop B, since it pedals off of a low D note. I'm positive it's in D Standard (whole step down), judging off of the sneak peek video that was released back in January of 2015.

And the new My Last Mistake solo tutorial also lists the tuning incorrectly. It says it's in C# G# C# F# A# D#, when in fact in the video itself he plays an open D# note. My Last Mistake is in D# Standard (half-step down).

Check this list regularly for new entries!

Thanks!

As for the tracks from Dust, these are for sure tunings used on certain songs. My Last Mistake was a bizarre case. Mark claimed on twitter that it was C# Standard, the tutorial said Drop C#, but it's surely in D# Standard.

The Cage - Drop B (definitely Drop B based on the bridge riff and solo hitting a B)
Once Dead - D Standard
Catching Fire - Drop C#
Rising Storm - Drop B (definitely Drop B, learned it by ear myself)

Haven't tried Never Wrong yet, but it sounds like it may be Drop C# or Drop B. No idea on Unable To See.

Unable to See is in Drop C#. Based on Tremonti's S&S DVD for the intro. I also learned the rest of the song, pretty sure that's what it is.

Have no idea on Tore My Heart Out. If I had to guess, it would be Drop Bb, the same tuning as Come to Life, Bleed it Dry, All Hope is Gone, etc. He's definitely hitting a low Bb, not 100% sure on the other strings. Someone should ask Mark on Twitter

I think TMHO is actually Drop Bb, but the conventional tuning, not the come to life tuning.

I dont understand why they rewrote it from flats to sharps. Its the same damn thing!

I think Never Wrong may be in an open tuning. Supposedly Dust is in C# standard, from the tabs Ive seen.

Which ones have you seen? Most of those that I've seen is in Drop B which makes sense, judging from the intro melody.

Hey guys,

I didn't expect this thread to re-blow up! But yeah, I've been quietly researching the tunings and listening to the songs over and over for clues, and I think this is what they all are:

My Last Mistake: Eb Standard
The Cage: Drop B
Once Dead: D Standard
Dust: Drop B
Betray Me: D Standard
Tore My Heart Out: Drop Bb
Catching Fire: Drop Db
Never Wrong: Drop Db
Rising Storm: Drop B
Unable to See: Drop Db

I will update the full list on the OP momentarily!

EDIT: Corrected Tore My Heart Out tuning, had a typo there.

Whoops! My bad that was a typo. I've definitely mentioned it is in Drop Bb in the past. It is 100% Drop Bb. Will correct that post, haha!

This one mainly. This dude is usually pretty spot on. And it doesnt sound as low to me as songs we know have that low Bb, like Tore My Heart Out.

You seem to be right. I've been looking at the beginning of this video:

(sorry, embeding doesn't work)

and he seems to be using standard powerchord shapes.

Catching Fire is in C# Standard.
Sounded weird to me at first, but after chatting with Mark about it it makes sense.

So live Mark looks to be playing Dust, Catching Fire, and Flying Monkeys all in the same tuning.

weeeeiiiird. i always play that in dropped D half step down. You'd have to overstretch a lot when you play the main riff in standard.
