No you will be fine. Its only one note lower, and one string. I play 12/13s even in standard.

I play 10-52 on my Tremonti SE which is a 25 inch scale at Eb. Feels perfect. I have my 25.5 set up for Drop C with the same gauge strings, which also feels just right. You should be fine with the 10's. Might I recommend Daddario NYXL's, as they are a stellar set of strings, a little bit more mid's, and they seem to stay brighter longer than the normal Daddario's.

Hey guys during an Artist Session in Zurich a couple of days ago I asked Mark about the tuning for Cruel Sun and he said it's Open G half step down. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet though.

Also, can someone link me to where Mark says he's the one in Open Gm for Cradle to the Grave and not in Drop C#? I could have sworn I read in some interview that it was Myles who was in Open Gm.

Edit: Okay Cruel Sun is definitely in Open G half step down, Mark even plays the intro on his original instructional DVD.

There's been some discussion about Mark using standard tuning in the Army of 12 FB page. One claim is that Burn It Down was never played in this tuning, that One Day Remains is the only Alter Bridge song in standard. Anyone want to elaborate on why it's in standard here?

Because the recorded version is in standard. The rare times they have played Burn it Down since the AB III tours have been in half-step down. Those are the only 2 AB songs I’m aware of that were recorded in standard tuning

That's what I thought too. I'm not sure what to believe.

Burn it Down is in E standard on the album and they played it like that on the ODR tour:

But they've been performing it in Eb since the Blackbird (so to speak) tour:

This is NAMM 2007, January I suppose.

Not 100% sure this is the right topic for this question but does Myles play the solo for The Damage Done?

Mark and Myles both play the solo, talked about it with Mark at one of his guitar clinics. One of my absolute favorites, harmonized guitar solos are the best

Really? I would've expected they just used an octave pedal or overdubbed it.

Are we going to cover the tunings Myles uses on his album?

Edit: Well Myles has said Year of the Tiger is DADGBD with a capo on 7. Some other tunings have been mentioned but not tied to a specific song.

You are correct about Year of the Tiger. It's in DADGBD with capo on fret 7. Myles said this in an interview about other songs :

"I believe on 'Songbird' from this album I'm using a Nick Drake tuning [CGCFCE]. There's such a beautiful melancholy to what Nick Drake captured as an artist, and I felt it would be necessary to tap into as an artist."

“And there's a few new tunings for me on this record. 'The Great Beyond' and 'Nothing But a Name' was a tuning I just stumbled on to. Basically taking that Nick Drake tuning and lowering the E tuning a half step. That made it very dark, and the minute I started fooling around with that, it was hard not to come up with ideas."

"'Blind Faith' has a tuning I've used a fair amount with Alter Bridge: DADADD. 'Ghost of Shangri La' was CGCGCD. There were a lot of C tunings which I hadn't experimented a ton with in the past, but I felt like it was a good source of inspiration for me."

Damn I guess I remembered those incorrectly. I should've double checked the articles.

Edit: It's unclear what he meant about The Great Beyond and Nothing But A Name. Nick Drake tuning with lowered E tuning? Does he mean the high string is a half step down or what would be the low E in standard, is a half step down?

DADADD was my favorite tuning when I was playing more electric. Might have to dust off my Tremonti SE and see what I can do with Blind Faith. :D

Alright so I think I've figured out what he meant by those tunings now so I've made it into a list. I also added a couple of my own guesses.

Year of the Tiger - DADGBD capo 7
The Great Beyond - CGCFCEb
Blind Faith - DADADD
Devil On the Wall - D#G#C#F#A#D#
Ghost of Shangri La - CGCGCD
Turning Stones -
Haunted By Design -D#G#C#F#A#D#
Mother -
Nothing But A Name - CGCFCEb
Love Can Only Heal - D#G#C#F#A#D#
Songbird - CGCFCE
One Fine Day -

Unfortunately, I do not own a slide. Haha. I did just pick up a new 12-string guitar today, though, so I may need to hit up my local music shop for some accessories (strap knob, etc). I've always wanted to play around with a slide! Not sure if it sounds as good without having a resonator to play with, but meh... I'm not that good regardless. :lol

I've never tried one either but I want to. They can still sound great on an acoustic. Look up Beggars and Hangers On by Slash at Guitar Center on YouTube.
