I highly recommend looking at the EVH 5150 III as well. The list price for a new one is $999. From the financial standpoint, it's a tough metal amp to beat out.

I have a used Archon lined up on Reverb with a hard case for $1200. There's actually about 5-6 used of the 100-watt model which is what I'm looking for.

Was definitely considering a 5150 or 6505, but the other guitar player in my band is getting that so I want something a little bit different

Is he getting one of the older Peavey models? The newer ones made by EVH have a pretty different sound to them. I don't think you'd have to worry about having equal tones by any means.

That sounds like a pretty good deal on the Archon. I honestly don't know too much about them personally. Sounded like they have a nice clean channel. The overdrive is fine but I'm not sure if it's quite my taste. Sometimes it's hard to tell from recordings though compared to playing one in person.

Pre-ordered the Archon, should have it in the next few weeks! Can't wait

It's got more of a modern sound, correct? I have been watching demos of the new Sonzera head. Almost bought it instead of my Tubemeister 20 deluxe, but the H&K has tube safety control, so it won out.

Yeah man, it's a fantastic high-gain modern rock amp. Not much of a metal player, so this is right up my alley. H&K make fantastic amps, I've heard plenty of solid tones in my limited experiences with them. Good choice

I've transitioned my live rig from an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt head to a Victory Kraken. It's harder to dial in but overall I think I prefer it. It's got a very sharp 'front-of-the-note' kind of sound. It's also muuuuch easier to get to gigs and rehearsal.



Any other Victory fans in? I used to own a V30 as well but couldn't get a decent balance on the EQ between the clean and gain channels.

I recently picked up a used (but like new) Mesa TC-50 and it kicks all sorts of ass. It may just be my new main amp. Fender like cleans (really warm, which a drive switch that puts it on the edge of breakup). Has a British crunch channel that is capable of those AC/DC tones. Also has an insane lead channel that can accomplish modern metal and even djent stuff if you want.

It can go from Fell On Black Days to I Believe In A Thing Called Love to Ties That Bind in two clicks.

Going to pick up my first pedal soon. I'm either going with the Andy Timmons overdrive by JHS or the Avalanche Run reverb/delay by earthquaker devices.

Thinking the Avalanche first since my Hughes and Kettner doesn't have built in reverb. And with the delay included, I'll save board room.

I really want that overdrive to kick dirt on the amps amazing cleans though. Thoughts?

I have the JHS Andy Timmons pedal, and it really is amazing. I used it strictly as my overdriven sound on top of the clean channel on my Marshall and got great results. If you want it as more of a boost for your amp's OD channel though, I would recommend something like a Tube Screamer or the Fulltone Full-Drive. I use the Full-Drive as a boost on my Archon and get amazing results

What would you compare the OD sound of the Timmons on top of an amps OD channel? Does it get too muddy? My amp kind tops out at Judas Priest type overdrive by itself. Unless I down tune.

It definitely muddies things up and you begin to lose clarity in your notes. And unless you have a noise gate somewhere in your chain, the amp more often than not will begin to feedback from all of the gain

Thanks. I think I'm still getting it, and using it over my amps clean tone. I play a lot of Def Leppard and Priest, so it sounds like what I'm looking for. The H&K has a beautiful clean.

lol I have a total of 4 pedals on my board (tuner, volume, OD, and wah), I'd like to think I keep it pretty simple a lot of guys I know have boards that look like a NASA control room

I also love the sound of the Mimiq Doubler by EHX I believe.

The Timmons is awesome. Love it. I went through Sweetwater, so they had a limited edition black one.

I think I may have sold my epiphone. Trying to decide if I should go after that Avalanche Run, or start saving for another guitar.

My lefty PRS custom 24 will be here in two days! Never thought I'd own a PRS ( or that my wife would be all for it.)

Dude I didn't even think to begin developing my lead playing until AFTER I got that wah pedal and realized how sweet and fun it is to bend a string past the 12th fret on the high E string and press down on the wah pedal at the same time. I remember that like within a day or two of getting the wah it was like a light bulb flicked on in my brain and I broke through a plateau. Get it now man!

Got this back in the spring. It's the tremonti baritone hybrid model. Enjoying it so far!
