Your Acoustic Covers Repertoire

Postby TenaciousBe » Sat Jul 28, 2018 3:52 am

A while back, I believe on the old board back when we were ABB.net, there was a thread wherein people posted a list of the acoustic songs that they played on a regular basis - ostensibly for people who regularly went out gigging, but this can go for anyone who sits around anywhere and plays any solo acoustic stuff, be it at Carnegie or in your bedroom. It's interesting to see what songs others are playing on the acoustic. I'll go first (in no particular order)...

Ones that get regular playtime:
Everything (Stereo Fuse)
If I Had A Dime (John Corabi)
Times Like These (Foo Fighters)
Zombie (Cranberries)
Take On Me (A-Ha)
Nutshell (Alice in Chains)
Watch Over You (Alter Bridge)
Every Rose Has Its Thorn (Poison)
Mad World (Gary Jules / Tears For Fears)
Closing Time (Semisonic)
Hang (Matchbox 20)
100 in a 55 (Pop Evil)
Free Fallin' (Tom Petty)
What's Up (4 Non Blondes)
Turn The Page (Bob Seger / Metallica)
Black (Pearl Jam)
Outside (Staind)

Others I've worked on but haven't really mastered:
I Am The Highway (Audioslave)
Runaway Train (Soul Asylum)
I Wanna Be There (Blessid Union of Souls)
Iscariot / Up 2 U (Walk The Moon)
Colorful (The Verve Pipe)
Zzyzx Rd / Song #3 (Stone Sour)
You Never Need Nobody (The Lone Bellow)
Hallelujah (Everybody and their Uncle)
Sign of the Times (Harry Styles)
Starlight (Slash / Myles)
Hello (Stevie Wonder)

Btw, what's the deal with AIC's "Nutshell"? Everyone is so in love with that song and I really don't understand why. They have way better songs.

They have a ton of great songs, this one just happens to be easy to play acoustically. I think it's a bit iconic as the opening of their MTV Unplugged set as well.

For a second I was like, "Everybody and their Uncle? I've never heard of that band..." :lol

It's beautiful. It sounds funny that a song would speak to your soul. But Hysteria has an instant calming effect on me. I think I'm going to learn Pearl Jam's Given To Fly. Another pretty one
