What Guitar Is This?

Post by BastiMix »

So today I met this woman for the first time ever at a jam session. We talk and she said her dad played in a band something like 50 years ago and she still has his guitars. She gave me this one and said there are 4 or 5 more which I could have as well. Now I don't know if it's self-made, a big brand, a cheap thing, there's no serial number, nothing. Maybe you can help me solve the mystery. More pics to come.

Almost looks homemade to me, but I'm not good at picking out old guitars from looks.

Very interesting. Especially the wooden bridge and pickup... it looks like it was made in the vein of the Silvertones that you used to order from the Sears catalogue back in the day. As far as a specific brand goes I can't be a lot of help there. I can't see too well but does the red finish have a sparkle to it?

Nonetheless, cool find. That Silvertone pickup sound is quite sought after these days in blues circles.

looks like a Harmony Stratotone from around the 50's, but the bridge is angled instead of straight and the knobs look a tad different. That's as good as I can do.

I agree with JVT that if it is a manufactured it looks to be Danelectro, it may be home made and modeled after one.
