The Official Megadeth thread

Post by One Drew Remains »

Any other huge Megadeth fans in here? Here is some awesome footage from thier "Countdown To Extinction" 20th anniversary tour. A bunch of crazed South Americans holding up xerox'ed off copies of the album and chanting guitar parts while jumping up and down. Gotta love it. (The crazyness insues at 2:40-ish)

Megadeth are one of my favourite bands, did you hear they went into pre-production for their next album already? Rust In Peace and Peace Sells are brilliant albums. I really enjoyed Endgame, but I didn't enjoy 13 as much, Endgame is just straight up thrash, whereas 13 isn't heavy enough for me. Not to forget the album is pretty much a compilation of already released songs/demos, so it didn't really feel new to me. It does have alot of good songs though, but it doesn't have anything outstanding.

Yeah, I have about half of Endgame on my ipod for when I go running. Great album in the vein of RIP. 13 had alot of unused b-side type of ideas on it. I do like Black Swan and a few others though.

That's awesome that they are staring on a new album already. And I love that Jumior is back in the band. Great to see him on their video updates.

Rust In Peace is one of my favorite metal records of all time. I like Peace Sells a good bit too, but I definitely like RIP more. I find it hard to really get into a lot of their other music though. I know the bigger songs like À Tout le Monde, Sweating Bullets, and Symphony of Destruction, but Peace Sells and RIP are the only two albums I like listening to all the way through.

Their first four albums plus Endgame are definately their best work. I haven't heard all of United Abominations, The System Has Failed, The World Needs A Hero or Risk, but from what I've heard I'm not really in any hurry to so do. I can't really get into So Far, So Good, So What? But songs like Set The World Afire, Mary Jane, Liar and In My Darkest Hour are incredible. I love the vibe of Killing Is My Business too, that's a great album. Youthansia and Countdown aren't bad albums, but no where near as good as RIP or Peace Sells. Cryptic Writings has a few good songs, but the majority of it is forgettable.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Killing Is My Business has a really good metal sound to it. Youthanasia and Countdown just didn't sound too much like the early Megadeth I really liked. I also agree that Endgame has been the best of their latter work.

Some of their 90's records (Youth, CW, Risk) are too light and just not memborable in parts. But I'll disagree about Countdown. It's definately one of my favorites of theirs. Plenty of riffs (not a ton pf speed although Ashes In Your Mouth is amazing) and cool parts. Nick Menza's breakdown on the drums before the voices start in the bridge of Sweating Bullets is amazing.

I can also do without half of SFSGSW. But I love the rest of it. BSC, do yourself a favor and have a listen to TSHF and UA. Good records. Side note, TSHF was originally going to be a Mustaine side project, but Sanctuary records said they were going to get one more Megadeth record, or they'd own the name (or something to that effect) so he brought in Chris Poland to do some solos and made it a 'Deth release instead.

I do like Countdown, it's a really good album, but I think it's a big step down from Rust In Peace and Peace Sells. My favourites are Skin o' My Teeth, Architecture of Aggression, High Speed Dirt and Ashes In Your Mouth. I find a few of that songs to just be too mid-tempo and a bit boring, like Symphony of Destruction, Sweating Bullets, Foreclosure, Countdown, etc.

I will get round to listening to TSHF and UA, I really like Blackmail the Universe, Kick The Chair, Back In The Day, Sleepwalker and Washington is Next from those albums.

I just realised, as I type this I'm listening to Peace Sells :lol, I love that album so much. I'd struggle to choose between Peace Sells or RIP.

Clips from the making of the new album from Vic's Garage. "Super Collider" is set for a June 20th release. So hopefully there will be a new single April-ish?

Nice. I so love that Megadeth guitar tone. Sounds like a power saw coming from my neighbor's house.

That's a good way to describe it. I like everything I hear in these clips. Not crazy about the title. Sounds like a Judas Priest title or something, lol.

Excited for the new Megadeth album, not too keen on Super Collider as the title

Definitely back in a Megadeth mood here lately. Going to give Super Collider another chance.

I unfortunately didn't get into Super Collider all that much. It wasn't a bad album, but unlike most of their other albums I never really felt compelled to listen to it more than 2-3 times. I may have to give it another shot soon though.

I really enjoyed Super Collider when it was released, now I struggle to find the motivation to listen to it, I think I just got bored of it.

It was definitely an improvement over Thirteen though, that album never really goes anywhere, not a single song is over a 7/10.

After listening again, there are three songs that I really like... Kingmaker, The Blackest Crow, and the cover of Thin Lizzy's Cold Sweat (maybe the best on the album). I myself don't enjoy it quite as much as Thirteen. Although I'd rate them pretty close.

I think Kingmaker, Cold Sweat, A House Divided, Forget to Remember and Don't Watch Your Back are really good.

I don't think it deserves all the hate it gets, but it's definitely not up to Megadeth's standards.

Well, I have to say I enjoy listening to Super Collider but I don't like the way Megadeth is going with their latest recordings. I mean, United Abomination was good, Endgame was great. But Thirteen and Super Collider are just flops for such a great band like themselves. Dave can surely write better riffs than the ones on the last album. Kingmaker is a really good song and I love Don't Turn Your Back… Hope next record will be something very different from this one.

Did anyone see them live lately? I don't understand why are the set lists so short now. 13-14 songs is way too short of a show for a band that's been on the top of the heavy metal scene for 25 years. I'm glad to see some classics like Devil's Island and Set the World Afire (that's my personal favorite off Peace Sells) made a comeback but man, we need some new stuff in the setlist too! I can't get away with playing just Kingmaker and then only pre-Cryptic Writings stuff!

I agree. Maybe Dave's voice (which isn't the strongest) can't handle much more than that. That's why I figured they always toured with at least 2 other bands.
