Steven Wilson:
Things have been quieter than usual over the last 2 months, just a few festival appearances, but things will soon be gearing up again. Firstly I’ve written some new material for the first time in over a year - still a long way to go before any new album will take shape (aiming to record next Summer I think), but in the meantime we may premiere something pretty long on the European tour starting in mid October

Looks like the solo project is still what's on the table next.

Going to see Steven Wilson this Thursday. So excited! Probably more excited than about AB this Friday, lol.

Okay so I've heard good things about these guys... I want to get into them. Where do I start? They have so much to choose from...

I'd start with either In Absentia, Stupid Dream, or Fear of a Blank Planet. Those are the three best but the rest is quite good too. In Absentia is the darkest, Stupid Dream is the most creative and poppy (though not happy, never happy), and Fear is the most progressive and metal.

I think In Absentia is their most likable album (maybe together with Fear Of A Blank Planet). I'd start with those 2 indeed.

I recommend Deadwing and Lightbulb Sun as well.

Steven Wilson was amazing last night. The show lasted like 2 hours and 40 minutes. We got to hear a new song too (which was called 'Germans Bite' that night :D). Steven asked us not to upload it online, because he thinks that's why a lot of bands don't play new songs live anymore.

Got to talk with the band (minus Steven) before the show. Guthrie Govan was impressed with the Belgian beers he had so far :D

How'd the new song sound? Any different from The Raven stuff (I hope)?

It started off really moody and sounded like typical Steven. Towards the end it got really heavy and at moments I thought it sounded a lot like Fear Of A Blank Planet (title track) and Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (heavy interlude), which surprised me a lot.

The weird time signatures were all over the place and at moments it was "wanky" as you would call it. There was a beautiful slow solo in it though. It's a very versatile song. I think it must've been at least 9 minutes as well.

Personally I liked it a lot, but I'm not sure what you'll think of it.

He also kinda confirmed that he'll record a new album next year!

We kinda already knew that, didn't we? I'm a huge Porcupine Tree fan, but as long as he's bringing out music I'm not complaining. Definitely after the other night. Best live show I've seen in a long time!

Yea, a shortened version. It was really special with the visuals in the background.

Well, that sounds promising and I'm sure I'll give the new album a listen whenever it hits, even though I'll really be waiting for a Porcupine Tree reunion.

Wow, has anybody heard the orchestal version of 'The Raven That Refused To Sing' on the 'Drive Home' EP? The EP includes a new song called 'Birthday Party' too.

Yeah, I liked Birthday Party, a lot. But I would've preferred some vocals over it.
