Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
Just heard 4 ½. My Book Of Regrets and the Don't Hate Me cover are pretty good. The rest is definitely not bad, but not that special, kinda like I was expecting. It's a B-sides album after all.

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
The album sounds like a compiilation of instrumental and usused tunes but since Wilson himself treats it as a b-side album, I'm not gonna complain. Really liked the new Don't Hate Me version with the female vocals, gives the song a nice vibe.

https://www.facebook.com/StevenWilsonHQ ... 642969461/Happy new year folks! A short clip of myself and the amazing Ninet Tayeb recording vocals for the song "Pariah" from the new album in progress, written especially for us to record as a duet. Co-producer / engineer Paul Stacey is also in the clip, filmed by Lasse Hoile earlier this week. More studio stuff soon!
Just 85 seconds, but so beautiful!

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
It probably is. I thought the ending was pretty intense though, which I really care more about. Ninet is incredible.

New song available on iTunes and streaming services. It's very In Absentia sounding. Loving it!

SW is slowly starting to gravitate away from what I felt in love about him in the first place. I loved HCE and these new tracks are pretty good, but It doesn't really move me emotionally or anything. Still looking forward to the new record though.

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
HCE lyrically hit me really hard. That album also has some of my favorite guitar solos ever laid on a SW album, so emotionally I'm not complaining.
Pariah continued that trend. The Same Asylum As Before, though more Porcupine Tree sounding, feels a bit more flat to me. But with Steven Wilson you need to hear the full album before you can fully judge a song in my opinion.

I was talking about HCE being great and two new tracks not hitting me emotionally, just to be clear.
But yeah, SW does not write singles so you need to get familiar with the bigger picture to be able to assess his work properly.

My bad. Interpreted that wrongly.
If were making comparisons with HCE, many people weren't too convinced with the first singles from that album as well, so we've got that going for us, lol.

There's a new song called 'Song of I' online! Very electronic/trip hoppy. My favorite from the three so far.

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
Well, heard all three songs. I do like The Same Asylum As Before and Pariah. Not so much Song of I. Nothing wrong with incorporating electronics and trippy stuff, but it's not for me. I'm probably going to get scrutinized by Timo for this, but this sort of direction that Song of I went reminded me when Muse decides to take a little scenic route with their sound in songs like Madness and Dead Inside (which I do like. Madness not so much.)
The Same Asylum As Before and Pariah is more enjoyable for me. I'll still listen to the album regardless of whatever paths he may take in the album since as stated, he really does care about the album as a whole when it comes to the creative process and putting effort into it.

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
I can see the comparison with Dead Inside (which I also like), because both songs have this Sign o' the Times vibe. The execution is completely different though.

They are actually back!
The album Closure / Continuation will be out on 24 June 2022 and there will be a UK/Europe tour in October/November.

Definitely great news, I wasn't expecting it. But I'm disappointed not to see Colin in this (apparently).

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
Wow was definitely not expecting this at all. Fantastic song, fantastic comeback...
Harrison is just such a joy to listen to. The entire rhythm section and Barbieri's landscapes are top notch. Steven as well of course. He's sounding a lot better than he did on his last two solo records.
Wondering who played the bass on this track. Could maybe have been Steven himself? Would love to hear something about Colin. I did enjoy the bass on this song a lot though, whoever tracked it.

Re: The Official PORCUPINE TREE Thread
There have been rumors going around that SW tracked the bass in studio, but they are possibly going to hire Nick Beggs from Steven's solo band to execute the parts live.Timotheus wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 10:23 am Wow was definitely not expecting this at all. Fantastic song, fantastic comeback...

As for Colin, people on Reddit suggested that there was a fallout between them shortly after the 2010 tour, however I've listened to an interview with Edwin that claims that Steven wasn't interested in PT come back for a long time and that all of them were gonna do it. I wonder why he wasn't asked to join eventually. Somebody else suggested that due to Covid he hasn't been able to fly over from Australia, but I've always thought he lived in the UK.
